Technically it does, if you go one better than the following season then you are the bettr side. Personally i dont think there was much in it. Both sides had their good and bad points.

 

That doesn't necessarily mean that the squad was better. PP failed to get the best out of the talent in his squad such as Marshall and Morris. Given what we know they can do at this level, how they were both redundant that season is beyond me. Additionally, the tactics pp employed during the play off semi were awful and we were almost set up to fail. McCall on the other hand got the best out his players.

So was progressing a round further under McCall down to man mangement skills and perhaps a difference in approach, or was it purely down to having superior players available to him and nothing else? Debatable, but it's not as simple as Wembley=better squad. What I do know is that we definitely wouldn't have got to Wembley without Meredith, Mcardle, Cullen and Marshall and they were all available during our 2015/16 campaign.

 

But not with Edin & Stefans model that you are alluding to, that is the point that I'm making, Stuarts first seasons achievements were not because of the way Edin wanted the club to be run, Edin admitted there were differences of opinion, Stuart was never the coach even Edin commented on it, this is the first season we will be going with Edin & Stefan's model.

 

I wasn't alluding to anything. I was talking about their ownership.

And it really isn't any different.

McCall/Collins - coaches the players, picks the team, chooses the formations etc
Transfer Committee - identifies, discusses and signs the players

Unless you know differently? Which I expect you don't.

 

As is the norm with me the nearer the season gets the more optimistic I become. I am OK with all the signings but would still like to see one or two more come in with something a bit "more". My real concern is the coaching team. I actually wanted a young hungry coach, even if relatively unproven. The problem is that MCs record on paper with the U18s only proves that he isn't very good. I know it's down to available players etc. but I would feel much happier if he had smashed the league last season. Go on MC - prove me wrong!

 

I give up my first post on the subject was saying they did not start there time here with their model/vision, because they brought a manager in, rather than a head coach which if you listen to our owners that is the way forward and for our club to prosper.

It looks like your trying to twist it to suite your argument as above, why are the owners so keen to go down that route if as you say above "it isn't really any different".

Any answers to the two questions I asked you above, ?.

You can’t isolate one period and a couple of players. Parky showed he could get the best out of his players by all he achieved

 

Rather like with the new England team my heart hopes the well coached young uns become the new hero City team. What I want to see at VP (as that's where I watch 90% of my football) is a good attacking style but solid defence and fewer losses especially to poor teams. Last season at VP was absolute cr#p with game after game after game poor. feeling better about it so far!

 

I can isolate one period because I'm only talking about the 2015/16 season, not his tenure as a whole. His achievements outside of that period are irrelevant. Our highest earners/marquee signings were all bench warmers. Marshall, Morris, Davies, Anderson and a couple of others, so I'd argue he didn't get the best out of the squad during that season.

 

Parky was great in the cups, did what was needed in L2 and solidified us in L1. I think he took us as far as he could.

Boltons wage bill was £13m in L1. He did his job but I cant see them kicking on in the Championship - money issues or not.

 

I agree and didn't Bury buy lots of "experienced" players(some journeymen?) but it clearly didn't work.

They were the ones making the statements about what we should do going forward yet didn't implement it from the time they came to the club, most fans were quite happy to go along with the way we were, hoping they would invest more finance into the player budget.

With regards your reply, this will be the first season we have worked with their model, head coach rather than a manager so we'll have to wait and see if your comnent is correct.
I'm a little more confident after speaking to the lad yesterday at training as he said Collins & Drury have convinced Edin 3-5-2 is the way forward, perhaps Mr I know football is listening,

What do you mean by that? Not one manager who has left has said Edin picks the team or tactics.

So why would the new coach have to convince him of that?

 

Chill out man I'm not criticising Edin, I was talking to one of the jounior coaches and he said Edin preferd a different formation but Collins & Drury convinced Edin that 3-5-2 was the way to to go with the squad we had, no point scoring just telling if as I heard it.
