Tried the legend, tried the League One mastermind, maybe time to try something different rather than a perennial failure. We have to accept Edin has a model and that is the way it is. Collins and the other two have bought into that model so that ticks a huge box if anything.
Coaching shouldn't be a problem, I know someone in the club who really rates Drury as a coach.

Funnily enough, I feel more optimistic about the coming season, that I did on the eve of last season, when we were losing some good players, and not replacing them adequately. The blow of losing at Wembley was probably still festering though, to be honest The saga of not replacing McArdle last summer was a real downer at the time. It was a big surprise that we started the season so well, but I was never confident of it lasting, due to the pretty poor home performances served up.
Hopefully, the new coaches will have some good new fresh ideas, whilst also making us more solid and difficult to beat.
I am pleased with the keeper and defensive recruits, still think we need at least 1 more central midfield player, and 1 more striker, 2 if Charlie Boy leaves.

I’m still massively underwhelmed by the HC appointment, as well as Drury and Abbott. They can sign all the ‘decent’ players they like but it’s down to management and coaching to make them into team - this is where we are going to fall short next season imo.

Well this is a heart/head moment for me. My heart tells me to be optimistic, new season, coaches, players, young players, we just might find the formula. My head says caution, the recruitment of head coach was chaotic, we are buying players who don’t cost much, is this team a bargain or are we going to get what we paid for?
I can honestly say I have never felt like this at the start of the season before.
Will we be celebrating our brand new team this time next year, or be truly in the dumps!CT Bantam, Inspector, vladimir and 1 other person like this. -

Agreed. What's done is done. This is the start of a new chapter which may or may not be a successful one however we need to give it a chance.
Football supporters by their very nature are impatient and we are all guilty at times of demanding immediate success. For me the timing of this new strategy at the club wasn't the best - especially when we appeared to be on the cusp of making the step up to the Championship. However, it's been/being implemented now so let's suck it up and get on with backing the lads from this point forward.

So was progressing a round further under McCall down to man mangement skills and perhaps a difference in approach, or was it purely down to having superior players available to him and nothing else? Debatable, but it's not as simple as Wembley=better squad. What I do know is that we definitely wouldn't have got to Wembley without Meredith, Mcardle, Cullen and Marshall and they were all available during our 2015/16 campaign.marshy77, bantamdave41 and WilsdenBantam like this. -

Even though they say their model is a head coach who is there to blend players into a winning, atractive footballing side. they didnt have the belief in their convictions or they would have done it from the off, Parkinson out and a head coach in, instead of bringing McCall back (to pacify fans) and bringing their own head coach in and going with their model from day one.
In hindsight it has been two wasted seasons the first team IMO are not as good as the one Parky had at the end of season 2015/16 the development lads have yet to bear fruit one or two have potencial but as yet I cant see any going for the sort of money many were hoping for.
New season new hopes as usual I believe the team/ coaching team will get the full backing of the fans let's hope the new way works out, August will certainly be a challenging month. -

McCall/Rahic/Rupp got us closer than Parkinson/Lawn/Rhodes ever did and those are the facts whether you like it or not. -
As is the norm with me the nearer the season gets the more optimistic I become. I am OK with all the signings but would still like to see one or two more come in with something a bit "more". My real concern is the coaching team. I actually wanted a young hungry coach, even if relatively unproven. The problem is that MCs record on paper with the U18s only proves that he isn't very good. I know it's down to available players etc. but I would feel much happier if he had smashed the league last season. Go on MC - prove me wrong!

I can't imagine for one moment that we won't have a mix of different players for different circumstances and different opponents. The notion that we play in one formation and only one formation just doesn't make sense... but then I'm not a football coach!Allotment Bantam and Nick_W_ like this.
