Fished the North Sea up at Warkworth on Friday but drew a blank. Could only get ragworm, but the Geordie fish Don't seem to like them.

I blanked trout fishing for an hr in gales on saturday so it's catching... or not catching i guess.

Shore bait fishing is one area i've never really tried. What bait would you prefer ? Lugworm, crab and What species are you likely to get up there? Cod? Bass? I know a few people that like youself sea fish properly and use baits etc from the shore and they've done really well. There is so much coast to go at. One lad a few yrs ago was catching some cracking spurdogs off the shore, and another guy i know from trout fishing circles had a few bass last year just spinning off the shore in amongst the bladderwrack. He was amazed. He expected maybe a sea trout or something but was stunned to catch bass right near his house. Loads of potential up here, hopefully get the boat out this summer to get some mackerel and pollock. That's about the extent of my sea fishing, i should spend some time experimenting with baits etc rather than just trolling jelly worms and sandeel patterns.

Always catch on lifeforms and mackerel. Lots of features to catch - placid and flounder, mainly. But also coddling, shifting and bass, with the occasional crab thrown in! Fished Plockton a few years ago on mackerel and caught mackerel.

The slot for Rainbow trout over here is anything under 14", and I think anything over 22" (might be wrong on upper limit, got my limit last autumn all around 13". In spring got my limit but only about 10". (Limit is 5 per day for Trout). Fall I was fishing out of kayak, anchored over a bit of a honey hole. Earlier in Spring we had waders on so didn't get to our favoured spot.

Overnighter piking tonight. It's that time of year again, the play offs, or should i say the post pike spawing feeding bonanza, so a bit of surface lure fishing in the shallows. I know it's a hard sell but it's all very exciting if you time it right. Probably blank though :D good luck to the huge amount of fisher folk on here that there clearly are o_O if you're off wetting a line this weekend .

Hopefully this isn't the first MIDGE weekend though......

    Greetings from the River Humber.

Maritime Museum has been visited. Not as vast as the one in Liverpool but still very good.

Beast of an estuary. The humber bridge is an amazing feat of engineering. Think i've been to that museum in my youth. Not fancy The Deep?

    Nah, though it was nearby.

Just been for luncheon near the docks in Leeds. For someone who doesn't fish I seem to spend a lot of time around the drink.

Keep telling you. Get an urban kit, wee bag of lures, small rod, wire traces, net, rod n line license nd off you go, miles of free urban fishing. If the fishing is crap just go to the pub.

What about closed season mate? Is it different on the Eden with it being primarily a salmon river?

Jealous Offy. Stick float for the dace? Lovely little fish. Hope you get a chub or barbel when you go, as you know I was well into chasing these fish back in yorkshire. Not much better in life than running a stick float though a nice piece of water, in yer waders and a pouch full of bait.

It's a netting session, but because i do a fair bit of work on the Environment agency I've wangled a freebie. They reckon too many fish for the river at present to sustain .

Excellent. Sounds good that Offy. What they doing with the fish they net? Never been involved with a fish survey/or netting but have had the opportunity up here on the club waters just not been able to help when it came up. I read a thing that it is being discussed about whether the closed season should actually be abolished anyway. Maybe it will be ditched? Cmon it was really just used to keep common folk off the rivers in the spring when the well to do were wafting their greenhearts about for salmon.
