Wellens is simply playing mind games. If Swindon wanted Doyle, the negotiations would have been done now. Very rare these days for a player to go to the parent club and then back out again - it also nearly always occurs because the parent club have bought someone in. And why would Swindon be actively chasing Pitman, who actually could be even better and hence why I don't think they'll be back

Doyle is in a good position either way. Can't see him signing a long term contract, i think he'll be glad to see his contract out. Few offers in the summer so he can pick and choose.

Could be but might not be. Doyle is worth more to them as it stands than another striker who they have no idea if he will be as good a fit. Players just fit certain clubs better and when you've scored 23 in 22 there ain't gonna be a better fit.

Can’t we just now assume Doyle is our player until the end of the season unless and until we hear otherwise. No other club can play him this season and Swindon are skint. Of greater interest for discussion is how we will play him and what will be our preferred system. I think Bowyer is a conservative manager and may be reluctant to play two wingers other than late in a game when losing. Getting the best out of Doyle is going to be a big test for Bowyer. If his goals suddenly dry up it will be the manager rather than the player who takes the blame. This should put to bed the argument of whether Bowyer is a good or poor manager.

So why not make it clear that they made a bid of x?

For me they thought they could takes advantage of our situation which is fine but Bowyer would be foolish to not want a player who knows how to score in this league.

Bowyer has a target - get us out of this league! And Doyle will help him achieve that(hopefully)

Well I can only take it as they wanted him on loan only and to see what happens at the end of season.

Or maybe Doyle who life should up north is in no rush to sort out his next move and why should he on this form.

Forget loans to any club, not on the agenda. They would need to buy him, ie offer a contract., anything else is for the birds. Here I am, with a very good reputation for goal scoring, I am at the latter end of my career, why would I sign up a contract with Swindon? Yes I would have preferred to stay at Swindon so I could continue scoring as I have been, but I am a city player and they want me back. So I will be do my utmost to score goals for City and wait for the offers to come in after a joyous promotion season. Wellens et al can whine on, but thinking from Eoin s perspective if he isn’t looking at it like this, he needs to take some serious professional advice.

Even if they were to put a extremely good contract together for Doyle, we would need to accept it. I think they have missed the boat. That should have happened already. It would leave us short of a striker. We are not here to service Swindon’s needs and sort ourselves out round their agenda. Letting a rival have one of our very good assets is also not on the agenda, or shouldn’t be.

If he finds his feet here and we look likely for promotion then the club may make him an offer he can't refuse. He will be 32 and want that security and it is a risk at that age letting your contract run down. Especially given his terrible health scare a couple of years ago.

Its more likely he leaves for free next summer but a lot of that depends on the next few months. If Doyle is scoring and happy then he could stay beyond.

Plus I doubt Doyle will sign for them long term. He willing wait to see what other clubs want him and what happens with us.

Wellens said they wanted him on loan, he said you assume the parent club don’t want them and don’t want them of their wage bill. You assume they won’t recall. Umm yes all of that is correct, but if the player does well their is always a chance that the parent club will either want them back or up the loan fee, as you know full well Wellens.
