That’s called a granny charger. Many people use them but they are half the charging speed of a dedicated 7.2 kW smart charger.

Yes, it's mined in very poor countries like DRC and kids get paid pence a day to do it.

My battery is guaranteed 8 years . Many aged Nissan Leaf EV are well into double figure years, and battery tech has zoomed ahead of those batteries in 12 years.

The second hand car market for EV’s is bonkers. I kid you not, a used VWEV cost more second hand than a new order. Mine is roughly £5k more from CarWow now with 8k miles on the clock and 15 months old, than what I paid for it. Any VW dealership would buy it before lunch. It’s crazy. Mind you the second hand petrol car market is also stupid.

The charger grant is no longer , from memory it ended 31/03 this year. To me it was a licence to give a free £350 to installation companies/ OLEV electricians

Apparently the next biggest pollution in cars after the diesel fumes, is the rubber particles that wear from the tyres.
They are looking at taxing this. Whatever happens the tax man will always get you.
Look at the tv licence, thinking of scrapping that and making you pay an amount on the council tax band of your house, higher the band the more you pay and reductions if on benefits.

I wouldn’t touch a Tesla with a barge pole. Lousy engineering, shambolic built quality, overpriced Musk rubbish. They have good software though.

There is to much Daily Express / Mail misinformation spread about EV’s , 95% of it utter raw locks.

Where you are correct is public charging needs to catch up. I wouldn’t one example of a poor charging experience though as I saw the 500 m long queue at a nearby petrol station the other week?

However, that doesn’t worry me because I’m 100% home charged.

Battery recycling is now available, so that can be put to bed.

I bet it was £20k + though wasn't it? Try affording that on £9.50 an hour. As usual, there is great savings to be had.... If you already have money
How fantastic, I’m very happy for you.
I was simply making the point that you saying it costs whatever pence per mile to run is irrelevant if people can’t afford to buy the thing in the first place.

EV batteries lose approx 6-7% in the first year ( like any recharge cell) after that it’s negligible amounts . You can’t overcharge but again it’s better for any battery in an EV to charge using AC ( home) than repeated use of very high power DC ( high cost public fast charging) It’s about finding a balance.

I don't think hes saying that keV with due respect. Those kinda jobs where you could stick money into a final salary pension are dying a death. I know I'll be lucky to ever afford.an electric vehicle let alone get a charging point fitted and I suspect the majority of the country is in the same situation. As you say with the astronomic cost of second hand vehicles and the crazy price of replacement electric batteries I won't probably.be in a position to ever own one. Not a dig at you by the way.

Great comment. Let's not forget the ICE VED that will need to be replaced with other duties. EV will only be cheap to run until the taxes catch up.

The ones that can afford it have been the beneficiaries. When they eventually press gang everyone in theyll bring in added costs.

Absolutely correct, they will increase VAT on ALL electricity used, domestically, which replaces 50% tax/ duty on petrol. Which ever way it will still be cheaper as long as off peak tariffs are available. Don’t forget standard daily rates are much higher, but we learn to timeshift household appliances to run during the night. So it’s a win win if one can use off peak electricity at the cheapest times for the generation companies.

Yes that’s bang on. Solar and wind, supplemented by Nuclear as back up , will be the way to go. A forward thinking Gov will have assumed this already.
