We only ever had two decent budgets the last time we were down here. £1.8m - 08/09 season thanks to Lawn’s loan and £2.15m the year were were promoted.

Only Parkinson was backed by the board, really.

But what does biggest club mean? 10 years ago who’s bigger, Bournemouth or Bradford City? It’s meaningless crap. We start next season on the points and with a smaller or similar budget to a host of clubs

As has been said, it's a mix isn't. You don't define the size of a club by it's playing budget do you? People talk about big clubs by the following and it's always been the same why try complicate something that doesn't need to be?

Teams like Sheffield United, you are saying that sort of logic they wouldn't be classed to be a bigger club than Bournemouth which they, it's not difficult and we will be the biggest team in that division no matter how you try to put it. Who do you think will be bigger than us and for what reasons @Mike Hunt@Mike Hunt?

Bradford obviously, bigger stadium, bigger city, FA Cup winners, and Bournemouth only one admin.

What I’m saying is that just because of a big stadium they don’t own, and a modicum of success in the past decade, there’s no reason to believe that City are a better draw for players than many other clubs in that division. Talk of clubs being bigger or smaller is bollocks and means next to nothing in the real world. Say to a player Salford on £5k a week or Bradford on £3k a week, he’s off to Salford. Same money he’s thinking what’s the coach like, how many of my mates are there and what do my mates who have played there think of club. He might trot out to the media the lines about massive massive football club, once in a lifetime opportunity to play for the best fans in the division, sleeping giant, but at the end of the day he’s doing what’s best for his wallet and his career.

But you're talking about a clubs budget aren't you? Players will always follow money it's just the way it is. That doesn't mean that they are deciding to play their football at a bigger club does it? Clubs may have bigger budgets but you can't replicate the history of a football club or the fan base.

I'm not arguing about players going for more money as it's a given, but you can't say x club is bigger than y because it has a bigger budget.

I agree, money talks. However, we can’t just give up because Salford are flashing the cash. Plus we are paying players that kind of money, or so they say. They also have to work out not only what is going in their bank account, but also which club is the most likely to gain promotion.

    Too True
Players and Agents have only one thing on their mind
Most of this seasons no hopers would have uttered the immortal
Can't wait to join such a big club
It's an honour to sign for a club like Bradford City
Am so impressed by the set up it was no decision but to,sign
Their performances prove it was more like "Give me the money and if I can be arsed I will play "

Leyton Orient are 3 points clear with a better goal difference by 5 to Salford with only one match remaining so it will be the playoffs for Salford.

Are these observations based on hard evidence, or just some random theory to fit in with disagreement of a posters view?

The city of Bradford has a poorly rated education system. My experience of Bradfordians is that they are generally poorly educated.

So I am agreeing with the poster. I was merely expressing surprise that he needed to ask the question (there was a question mark at the end of his post).

I think other things come into consideration like who the manager is and the ambition of the club and sometimes the geographical area. I do agree that a lot of the players blindly do what the agents tell them but there are some who have a mind of their own.

Education is different from natural intelligence. Natural intelligence gives you the ability to learn, Education the means to gain knowledge. People often conflate the two aspects of learning. I would never describe anyone as ‘thick or dim’ as they may not have received the appropriate Education, it is hardly their fault. Poverty also plays its part. I could go on but I won’t, this is a football forum.

I must mix in different circles to you then, not my experience at all. Proud Bradfordian born and bred and lived all my childhood in Bierley on a council estate.

I agree with his comments regarding being poorly educated, but what you allude to is also correct. The ability to learn is very often held back by a woefully inadequate education system for the working class and also a lack of encouragement from the parents of these children. I take my brother in law for example, from Holme Wood and got offered a scholarship at Woodhouse Grove as a young lad but his parents couldn't be bothered to put the effort in to get him there (my father in law was a lazy get and my mother in law worked a lot of hours to compensate), he left school with next to nothing. But personal drive and goals are also important to succeed, he now works at a Grammar school in high Wycombe after gaining two degrees, one of them a physics degree at Durham University. Sorry for the digression.
