Edin Rahic: It's Not Personal

I overheard a conversation today (indirectly) that involved a member of staff at Bradford City who was quote-unquote 'offended' that the fans had turned on Edin Rahic. The defence was, Rahic is extremely hard-working, has tried to as much as he can, and is very popular behind the scenes despite what has been churned out by the rumour mill.

    Fine.

There are definitely character assassins at work, most likely frustrated individuals who are critical of how things have been run, the 'arrogance' and 'stubbornness', the alleged initial refusal to take on board critical advice from genuinely knowledgeable individuals, etc, etc, etc. To be honest, this paragraph could go on almost indefinitely. There's a lot people don't like about Rahic, Rupp, and the way they have supposedly conducted themselves - and I've absolutely no doubt some of those criticisms are bang on the money and borne of first hand experience.

But now, nothing the guy does or says can be greeted with any positivity by certain people. I understand. He's the leader - he led us to this point. There's no one else to blame for that.

Having said all that, for me, and in light of the flyover that is going to take place whether people like it or not, my issue with Rahic (and Rupp) isn't personal. I'm sure they do plenty of good things out of sight or earshot, and I genuinely see no reason to believe they have nefarious intentions for the club. I trust Rhodes when he says he wants their investment to pay off, and I trust their investment was made with the best of intentions. They thought they had a good plan, they backed it with capital where perhaps others didn't want to. Great. Fine. That's a positive no matter how you want to look at it.

The flyover, and inevitable protests that will follow, aren't about kicking out two bad guys intent on ruining the club. I don't doubt Edin works incredibly hard. I bet you would like him if you were his boss and he valued you. I bet he's done everything he can, including admitting he was wrong about Collins. That takes balls.

This isn't an attack on Edin Rahic, the human being, it's an attempt to SAVE BRADFORD CITY.

Edin Rahic, and Stefan Rupp, are not competent owners. They don't understand English football, they don't know the EFL, and yet they've wandered in and imposed all kinds of unwanted, unnecessary, and unhelpful changes. Why?

    Some experiment? Belief? Blind faith?

Who cares. The results are the results.

They've now appointed Julian Rhodes in an advisory capacity. Julian Rhodes was available in an advisory capacity the whole time, as far as I'm aware. If they used him, God help us. If they didn't, God help them.

For me, it's summed up this way: they explained their ideas to Parkinson, and he couldn't quit fast enough. They explained their ideas to Grayson, and he reluctantly signed a short term deal, but refused any form of extension. Hopkin signed, but no doubt regrets that decision to some extent given what has happened.

Let's not confuse the R+R out campaign with a personal grudge, hatred, or worse, xenophobia. It's the result of mistake after mistake, bad call after bad call, embarrassing judgement after embarrassing judgement.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

If we had twitter and Facebook and forums like we do now, in 2007 we would have had a flyover to get rid of Rhodes

Just to be absolutely clear, I do not have any personal opinion about Rahic. It is his actions and the fact that he has, as CO and Director of Football, led the club into a dreadful position.

I can always remember something often said to badly behaving children, that they were loved but not their behaviour at the moment. Not saying Rahic deserves love, but if he learns to behave he may well be tolerated!

Maybe it is a good post but I couldn't get past the first sentence because I'm still trying to work out how you indirectly overhear something.

A fantastic post - very well said. I think if you could put this in an envelope, and send it to them, they might just disappear a bit quicker!

Dont care about the owners , all i care about is City , if i see something damaging the very soul of our club i will kick out . They have set us back 5 years , they made all these sweeping statements -- they set the bar high --- they promised eye catching transfers / manager etc -- and what have they done --- Jack s*it thats what , so NO i dont hate them just want them to go ASAP, the fans have a right to protest and it all comes down on the shoulders of the owners .

Excellent post Jon. It must appear to them that they are hated, but I don’t hate Rahic, but our club has been run like his own personal project. I am told that if I met him I would like him and that he is personable. None of this is personal it is about our club and the state it is in.

Not sure we would Rhodes was part of our decline I agree on that but Richmond caused the majority of issues and Rhodes stood by the club when many didn't or wouldn't invest.

And then follow it up with an 'In depth report'.
A load of tosh, to me.
Edin is SO well liked that if staff don't resign, they are shoved out of the door ...... Nothing 'personal', like !!

He is only popular behind the scenes because he got rid of anyone who disagree with him. It has become personal for me now and if the information I heard over the weekend is true and comes out soon I'm sure you will all agree.

But let's be frank most men with such control and power usually are massive arseholes.

I dont hate Rahic in fact I don't hate anyone, but it's just the fact that he's made a dog's dinner of our club, ploughing on with polices that we knew wasent fit for purpose.

I understand what you're trying to say however
What investment? you mean the loan?
And backed by what capital other than what the club itself financed ?

Dont be falling soft on these two, your club is fuked because of them.

It’s the finances that are confusing me tbh. @Dennis@Dennis has said that it is a loan, but there is no evidence that it is being paid back, some spurious figures that suggest some interest has been paid. Plus there is no charge against the club. They can’t pay dividends so I imagine that is why a loan is in place so they can pay ‘loan dividends’ as and when we have some cash. Although the caveat to that is not all the accounting books have been released.

You are right, there has been no investment, that is the most worrying aspect. If they intended to run it like Lawn and Rhodes did, hand to mouth, now that requires considerable expertise and there is no room for hair brained plans that others have tried and failed.

Salaries are being paid, and my question is, are they fair, are they equivalent for others at this level and more importantly can the club afford to pay the . Furthermore if our pay structure is for heavily tipped towards bonus, it is important that Rahic accepts his pay should be paid on similar lines.

Well said Jon, for most it isn't personal although no doubt you always get a minority that want the "Nazis" out as I over heard on the Kop against Rochdale.

For me it is simply the way the club is been run which imo has been the biggest cause of where we find ourselves on the pitch now, the fact that Mason left us voluntarily to go to Rochdale in a similar capacity confirms to me that there are big problems behind the scenes.

If I've said anything personal or insulting against them on here, I apologise as it was just born out of sheer frustration and certainly isn't why I want them to leave. If they stay it is my opinion that we will continue to regress and slide down the league, that is why I want them to go before the damage is permanent, no more no less.
