I think edin has realised his original plan of few loanees and buying promising young players is going to be a costly exercise, especially when you're competing with the likes of Peterborough and Barnsley who have a similar model. So I think he's sacked it off until we get to the championship anyway where we're in a far better position to be doing it.

He got into the Manchester United set up by virtue of his father who was the Cheif executive at Old Trafford. He packed in football, went to Durham University and I understand he is now working in finance.

Yeah works for some but not us we can’t afford Joe or Edin wouldn’t take the risk. We would just end up with the Gills

To be honest, I think its a mix of everything. Changing managers certainly hasn't helped bring on these players. We are currently seeing a mix of short termism with the loan market and long termism with dev players still coming in. This is mainly down to the fact that last season's squad was so far short it probably set the plan back somewhat.

Therefore they've had to use the loan market to quickly boost the quality of the squad with Payne, Seedorf and Miller in order to strive for promotion. But the signings of Isherwood, Colville, Wood & Clare suggest there is a still a future for the development squad. Time will tell if there's anyone of actual quality / potential there.

agreed. look at how many uk clubs run on a deficit / have high levels of debt and how many go close to going out of business in comparison to those in germany and further afield.

True, but even with a 'full price' gate of 10k (and I think it'd be nearer 12k) that's still more than most in this league. Top 6. And we can still profit more over from commercial opportunities given the bigger fan base.

Edin overall makes a fair point. If premier league clubs want others lower down the leagues to develop their players, they may want to look at their model. If they changed it so that they didn’t charge loan fees, high wages etc, then more clubs would probably take on more players. Everyone sort of wins.

Agree. This recent report https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44850888 shows how some PL clubs don't need ST revenue to make a profit. Its not ,like they are short of a bob or two is it?

    Pure greed

Not possible in Germany. He would have to run it past members due to the 50+1 rule where members have the majority vote.

Cleverly run German football. For the fans unlike England which is now all for money.

Not sure there is anything wrong in what Edin is saying.

He was good enough to get into the set up and was offered a new contract based on his ability. Ferguson wouldn’t have picked up just because his dad asked. I still find it fascinating that he ditched footy to become an auditor. He could still have done all that. Fair play to him. Still people don’t want the pressure and trappings of fame. And let’s be fair you can’t do half the things a teenager would want to do if your a professional

It is as it is, Plenty of other clubs prepared to pay the going rate to take premiership and championship players on loan, It seems Edin is finding it hard to stomach paying the going rate like other clubs and chooses to run to the papers whining like a big kid trying to play with the grownups

In one sense you're totally correct. What he describes as being unacceptable to himself is accepted by most of the club's owners in the lower reaches of the EFL. And many of those owners are willing to dip into their own pockets to subsidise their hobby clubs and improve their own chances of a crack at promotion. That hasn't suddenly started; it's been the way of lower league football for many years. It was the case long before he decided to buy the club and should have understood that. It's only in the past couple of seasons where the PL clubs want to get paid a lot more and impose extra conditions for their own overpaid starlets.

And if Rahic wants to change things, he won't do it by whining and whingeing in the Times expecting things to change in line with what he wants. It's not going to happen whatever his own ego might tell him. He needs to get the support of the other EFL owners who share his views and make a case for introducing different rules into the EFL's loan system. It won't be easy 'cos there are plenty of owners who probably see things differently to Rahic and who are more willing to accept what PL clubs demand. But it would be a start to get some of the more influential owners onside and do it through the EFL and not via a daily newspaper.

Just a quick comment. He may have a view on the subject, but we have three loan players at the moment. Two from Premiership Clubs and one from the Championship:-
    • Payne from Huddersfield
    • Seedorf from Wolves
    • Miller from Middlesbrough
