Spot on and totally summed up my feelings in that last sentence. I can't remember the last time I watched a PL match and the only interest I have in it is hoping Huddersfield get dicked every week, which to be honest is pure jealousy.

You are not doing a good job so far. You should try to look more needy. Shouldn't be that hard.

Exactly what I'm hoping for. Get rid of Man Utd/ Man City/ Arsenal/ Chelsea/ Tottenham/ Liverpool/ Everton/ Newcastle ie the 8 biggest clubs in England to a European super league and we could see a levelling out of what's left over time, possibly a British league at the top with regionalised leagues at level three and below.

The problem is for you guys is that if Man C, Man U, Chelsea etc form a new European League and leave the EPL, they won't be the only leavers. Sky, Amazon, BT (maybe) etc will also leave with them!

The amount of money paid to the premiership clubs over the season compared to the championship and lower leagues is astronomical. I don't blame the chairman of our club and at other clubs having a go at the rising fees paid for loans.

It’s not that far away. And it’ll be taken around the world. A Voiced over intro from some American sensationalist... ‘it’s game day 6 and we’re bringing you Manchester United v Real Madrid, live from the BP Superdrome in Dubai. If you’d rather watch Liverpool take on the mighty Bayern Munich from the Budweiser Stadium in Shanghai, hit the yellow button on your remote control now. Or, hit green to go to Las Vegas for the Battle of the Blues, as Paris take on Manchester City, who may give a debut to their new £1b Brazilian signing Wonga.’

There’ll be televised half time shows at each game, with Ed Sheeran giving an acoustic rendition of something. And as a result of the humidity there’ll be drinks breaks half way through each half. Purely for the players safety, but sponsored by Pepsi and bringing the added incentive of televised commercials and more revenue. VAR will be everywhere, sponsored by Samsung, or IBM, or Toshiba.

It’s the future. The only way of keeping the bubble inflated so it doesn’t burst.

Meanwhile, we’ll be asked to fork out 500k for a 6 month loan fee to land someone from Everton who signed 4 years ago, has never played for them but who’s been out on loan 6 times.

Your average - and I mean bang average - championship player will expect, and get, 100k per week.

And Accrington Stanley will still find a way to win games on a budget of £6.50 and being watched by 900 people.

    And I’m not even kidding.

Be happy with that also. I'd be just as happy/miserable as I was with West Ham as I was from 1958-92.
The interesting thing though is how would the "big clubs" "supporters" feel when they realise that they're not going to be winning every week and the fixtures and KO times will be for the benefit of global markets.

I find Edin's comments interesting. I wouldn't be wary of a link up with a Premier League club providing that the feeder club had the final call on which players were brought in and when they played. After the success of Burke & Cullen, I think we'd have all been happy with a link up with West Ham if it guaranteed a player or two of their calibre each season.

Not sure if this has been discussed but what I find interesting is that the feeder club idea that Rahic suggests surely goes against the idea of a development squad? I'm sure Edin's main motive behind the development squad was using our own youngsters rather than developing another club's? Has he changed his mind on the development squad hence the signings of Seedorf and Miller?

Good because that would burst the bubble on the championship and level the field even more. Football got along just fine without tv money and sugar daddies and given time to adjust it could again

I've no doubt that the whole set up will be designed for the global market and I suspect that's where the likes of Google and Amazon and Netflix (and Disney once they've bought Sky) will be targeting their efforts. Local 'fans' of the Euro clubs will still have some importance (if nothing just to create the atmosphere) but I'm unsure how this will feed down to domestic leagues. I suspect that the big losers will be the armies of mediocre players in the PL and the Championship who earn a king's ransom from playing football in the top leagues.

Would you rather be back at Upton Park watching Ruddock, Pearce, Lomas, Kitson etc or your current lot (most of whose names I can't recall!) in your comfie seatat the state funded stadium? I know where my vote would be! ;)

    Excellent post.

One point I would pick up on.

As far as Bradford City is concerned a crowd of 15k, given the price per ST, is the equal to about 10k at 'normal' ST pricing. So although we have fairly large numbers of ST holders our income from that source is comparatively low.

    I'm not so sure.

The big players ie Amazon haven't even scratched the surface yet.

There a hell of a lot of money to be pushed through the system before the arse end falls out.

I'm against formalised, specific feeder arrangements. It distorts the playing field - the league one feeder club on man city, with 3 or 4 of their reserves a season - for free - would have a massive advantage. I'd go the other way and limit the number of loans from one club to another over a period of time. Although, I'd prefer a full reform:

A cap on the number of signed professionals within each age bracket - and a certain amount over say 19 years old, that any club can have on its books.
Greater distribution of wealth from TV revenue through the league's.
A cap on the % of revenue any club can spend on wages, properly governed.
A limit on external revenue from 'investors'.
A rule that stipulates all loans from premiership clubs must be fully funded by the parent club, with no (or a max of 1) loan between clubs within the premiership.
Fixed, or fixed ranges, of ticket prices for fans.

It'd have massive benefits in terms of sustainability through the leagues, would help player development through better standards in each league and the prevention of players being stockpiled by big clubs, and would help the national side too.

Yet you're recommending other measures to further distort?

The Edin article is interesting, as we have two Premiership Loanees in Payne and Seedorf plus Miller from top of the Championship Middlesbrough. You are correct to question just who we are developing these players for?

Also a number of our ‘Development’ signings who came to City having been released by their original clubs, have not broken through. We are now into the third season of this model, with a new manager who has previously worked at developing players.

So I am more confused than ever as to just what the future plan is, if there still is one
