Just been watching an old Under The Cosh podcast (one with big Jon Parkin) with Craig Davies (from 07 July 2022 but randomly popped up). Talking about his time at Wigan, when Sharpey and Whelan were there.

funny listen. Whelan apparently offered them all a big cash bonus boost if they got promoted. He went back on that promise and Sharpe had to have a meeting with the players to come to a compromise, but the club ending up paying for a lavish trip to Vegas for the lads if they won promotion……which they did!

wonder if he can sweet talk Stefan into offering a bonus of some sort next season!

I’m hoping that he’s good at getting rid of players who are still under contract and not wanted without having to pay them a fortune.

We really need to move on Oliver, Odusina and Taylor at the very least.

PS: If we’re continuing to play 352 then I’d rather keep Platt, Stubbs and Odusina than Taylor. That’d be Kelly as LCB with Odusina as his cover, Platt and Stubbs as the options for the middle CB and then we bring in a RCB.

It's all still up in the air, and I will need to see evidence of change before getting too exited. Could be a shrewd move that is part of a plan with Sharpe being given a long leash and expected long term input. Or equally as likely, a very brief temporary and part-time appointment, to give RS a bit of footie consultancy over the next couple of months and also go some way to appease fans and boost ST sales in the immediate.

On the contrary I find GA's interviews a great watch - he's clearly got high football intelligence given the way he speaks about the game. His experience as a player (1,000 games) and manager (500 games) is there for all to see. Given his experience in the lower leagues, I feel he is probably the manager who is the best fit for us as it stands to get us out of this league once and for all. A 47% win rate out of 32 games with us so far isn't bad going, especially considering the odd barren spell. Interested to see what he does over the summer when he can really start to put his own stamp on things.

He might report to Rupp but if Rupp doesn't get more involved there's little point.

Pointon we are bound too but I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t sign it.

Smallwood for whatever reason GA seems to like but if it was me I would be getting him off the wage bill. He’s shite for us.

Is there any difference with Pointon being a younger player in terms of the option? E.g if another club offers him a deal do we need to match it?

The option will mean the same for him as it does for any other player. In theory we have all of the power, if we trigger the option there is nothing the player or any other club can do about it although it's not that simple in reality as Alexander said in the T&A today that if a player really wants to leave then it might not be wise to trigger the option. That will be where it is slightly different for Pointon compared with the older players, if we didn't trigger the option as he said he wants to leave to another club we then only have to offer him a new contract on same or better terms then if he rejects that we would be owed compensation from his new club as he's under 24.

Since Sharpe's arrival we've heard nothing from him.
I know he's been in meetings with our management team but feel a little bit of his thought process going forward while season tickets are on sale would not do any harm since we've been starved of communication leading up to his appointment.
It would be nice to know how he's settling in at our under performing club now he's got his feet under the table.

We shouldn’t do business in public, especially surrounding “ future” of playing staff before the end of season. That would be bonkers. What else can he talk about in reality.? All will become clear when the list is published surely?

Yes I think most fans expected Smallwood to be more dominant in midfield to say he was a Championship player with Hull as well as being their Captain.

High praise for Sharpe here and notable the time frame being spoken about in getting a good team together:

Just a thought but..........now that Leam Richardson has been sacked at Rotherham, I wonder if Sharpe will try and reunite with him at VP?
