People wanted something to happen ,it has and a few immediately say not good enough.
The guy has not even got his backside in the chair yet.
I do not care how old he is, he has done a decent job at Wigan and Mansfield.
I do not care if he is mates with Sparks or not.
Its more football knowledge into the club and if it means Ryan can concentrate on non football matters , great.
Its a start, lets see where it goes.
Welcome from me, Hope it goes well, you have your work cut out.

I renewed ours today. I WhatsApped my son to tell him I'd renewed and he replied, but I didn't do anything wrong Mum!

Women want stability, both financially and relationship wise.
They don't want good looking bird magnets they can't trust, that's why I struggle.

I think this could be a shrewd appointment, at a time we are in desperate need and thankfully it’s before the summer window.

Good luck to the lad I hope he’s a success, there are no guarantees but it was painfully obvious for a long time we needed more people in the footballing department. Waxing lyrical about little commercial deals will only get you so far as a football club.

The introduction of the role is very much needed, and his CV is sound. On the face of it, its 100% the right thing to do.

I'm still reserving judgement though - not about this appointment, but in terms of whether its just the start of material change at the club, or akin to putting lipstick on a pig.

Taken from the Mansfield Town forum. Here's what Nigel Clough said about his time-

“I think he has taken the club forward in the last three years both on and off the pitch. We'll miss him, certainly from the football side of things, for his contacts and his football brain, knowledge and nous."

“He has been a very good colleague and friend as well over that time so we will certainly be keeping in touch. He will be at the end of the phone if we need him, which is good."

“Sometimes it's a lot of work behind the scenes that people don't appreciate, but I think he has been responsible for a lot of progress here.”

The most positive comment here being how he's rated for his influence running the club from a football perspective, which is certainly where Sparks is struggling the most.

    They are not close friends.

Sparks has come out and said that he has had a few conversations with Sharpe over the years and is well aware of the good work he has done especially at Mansfield.

Good appointment in my opinion and hopefully he soon gets stuck in and sorts out the footballing side of the operation and Sparks concentrates on the commercial side of things

There are two UK companies involved in the ownership chain of 'our' club; the 'club' company and the UK holding company. There is then a German holding company which in turn owns the UK holding company. That was originally owned by R&R but of course is now only owned by Rupp. Rahic was a director of both UK companies from when R&R bought it in May 2016 until he left the club in Dec 2018. Rupp wasn't a director of either company during that period. He only became a director of both UK companies in Dec 2018 when Rahic left.

It all sounds a bit complicated but it's fairly standard in these situations where there is foreign ownership. I'm not a fan of this kind of structure and I would much prefer all EFL clubs to have their ultimate ownership company residing in the UK to improve governance. Unfortunately the EFL have missed the boat again on that one.

Not true for me mate, we won yesterday but a few wins at the end of a terrible season won't paper over the cracks. Don't get me wrong I'm buzzing to have won yesterday but we need to do better as a club in every aspect going forward.

...and to try to get the thread back on topic, I hope Sharpe can help us in the footballing department, although if I'm totally honest Im still not 100% what his role is(... waits for Kev telling me I'm thick and that don't understand business...).

It’s started already ….written off before he’s even officially announced. Some forum members….true to form as always, think we are Liverpool , Man City and Man U rolled into one.

We want a DoF……but not that one ! Jeeze .

Not sure, but how long will it be before Sharpe tells Sparks 'This town ain't big enough for the both of us'

I agree. That was my reading of the situation as well. I noticed his reference to the manager having the final say on recruitment. Mind you that's what Sparks said previously when Hughes was here and then Alexander says he was surprised when Wright arrived.

Had the other three - GA, Gent and the Academy manager - all fallen under Sharpe's purview, I'd have expected Sharpe to have been appointed as Director of Football as the club has appointed 'Directors' in charge of Ticketing(!), commercial stuff and 'Site Operations'. But Sparks chose not to do that. Instead he describes Sharpe on the club's website as 'working alongside' the other three. Personally I don't see that as having much longevity!

Given the way Sharpe was speaking in the interview, I guess he is also responsible for assembling a vision for the club's future and putting in place a longer term plan to get there. That's a very positive step for me on many counts.

My husband has just been talking about how poor our team is. He says that the basics are not there. Passing to a player in the same shirt; can’t head a ball; no position awareness of themselves or their team mates or the opposition, unable to read the game. We know we are in league2, but the basics should be natural to professional. Fitness, our squad never seems ready, @Bantam-in-Greece@Bantam-in-Greece mentioned not being ready to go and I agree.

Sharpe is not an inexperienced kid, he will bring professionalism to the club and will eventually turn the club round.

I find it interesting that some are questioning his experience, yet Chelsea appoint Sam Jewell, and at Bournemouth, Simon Francis is in an influential post.

Definitely agree with you here, as @Jordan@Jordan pointed out earlier, Sharpe wielded the axe at Mansfield and cleared out a lot of dead wood. Exactly what needs to happen here. Be ruthless, stop offering contracts to the likes of Smallwood, Ridehalgh and Chapman. Hopefully the first person to leave is Gent, as I honestly do not see what he can offer that Sharpe doesn't give us? Surely Sharpe will look at the abysmal signings we have made (Sam Walker aside, who's signing was credit to Colin Doyle) and decide Gent is totally winging it!
