I tell you what. I've never felt as saddened and upset about someone's illness outside my family and close friends. I never thought you could feel this way over someone you didn't know personally, and that's a huge tribute to a player who captured our hearts during his spell here

    Life is not fair sometimes

Know just what you mean Idle.
I've been out walking all day and don't do twitter etc.
So I've just found out about it.

    Terrible news.
My thought's and prayers go out to Stephen and his family.

By the way, I'm 70 next month and thought I'd seen it all and done it all.
But I'm not ashamed to admit that there are tears running down my cheeks as I write this after reading the other posts.

    Be brave Stephen,

    CTID

Convinced the likes of Gerrard, Carra, Warnock would play.

Gutted by this. I'll admit that he wasn't my favourite member of the history makers team in terms of a pure footballer but you could always see how much esteem his teammates held Darby in and that probably says more about the man than anything else could.

It's a bloody awful disease. Nobody deserves that and my thoughts are with Stephen and his family. 29 years old is fecking nothing!!

I will always remember him spanking that shot into the net against Burton in the league cup. It's one of the few goals I can literally picture in my minds eye. Without that goal the history makers would never really have happened and it's not overly dramatic to say that all of our lives would be different without it.

I hope that the club get something done so we can have him back on the pitch in front of a full house again.

    "Stephen Darby Baby......."

Devastating, sickening news and another reminder that life is too short and we just never know what is round the corner.

I can’t even bare to imagine how he must feel when he wakes up each morning here on in. Almost brings me to tears thinking about it.

I hope he gets the greatest of support during these times.

Truly gutted to hear this news, but......he’s still very much alive and with us, Edin pull your finger out and arrange a match NOW, make it a priority I want Stephen to be able to take to the pitch and play in the bloody game, take the applause and milk the love for one last time as a footballer.
A true Bradford City hero, let’s make him aware just how highly we think of him and make him rightly proud to be a Bantam.
Edin, City XI v Liverpool make it happen please xx

One of those players who every team needs, rarely has a bad game, Mr Consistency. Hope they can find a cure for this bastard of a disease before it's too late.

And I agree they should get Liverpool involved in any benefit match, the more bums on seats the better. I would make an exception to turn up for that one.

It's terrible to think in these terms as nobody 'deserves' an illness like this yet at the same time I can't think of anyone less 'deserving' than Darbs. Unless you know a player personally you can only judge them on their conduct on the pitch. Darbs always played with total dignity and discipline. He was always ready to fly into challenges with opponents twice his side and represented our colours impeccably. I just can't stop thinking 'why him?' It's just so unfair!

Terribly upsetting news about Darbs, but as you say he is still very much with us. Let's hope they can at least slow it's progression.
I listened to the BBC interview with Rahic, and he did mention that City would support in whatever way Stephen and his family thought was best, he then did say perhaps a match could be arranged, so he is aware.
Don't know if anyone else picked up on it but he did also mention that he had been speaking with Darby and his agent over the summer. Anyway, water under the bridge now. Let's hope for the best possible outcome for Stephen Darby and his family.

The Legends suite could be renamed the Stephen Darby suite, After all without his contribution its possible we would not have achieved what we did in those years,
Like most fans I am devastated that he has fallen foul of this terrible disease and feel for him and his family and of course his wife Steph, I wish him all the best and really hope the club can help him in some way and it is not just words, It is things like this where the football community has to come together and show its support.

Captain, leader hero and true City Gent through such iconic recent times for BCAFC. Our current crop must expend every muscle and sinew to ensure that they squander not one jot of what Stephen strove so galantly to achieve for our Club. #fullbackingforDarbs❤️

Come to think of it we've been great with hashtags @ VP. Can we not get something going with that one?

A lovely guy , and model professional , with no hairs and graces. My thoughts are with Darbs and all his family at this difficult time x
