I agree @marshy77@marshy77 but it was always going to be difficult when we were playing catch up, Bowyer certainly looks like he will give him a fair crack of the whip.

I half agree but I don't see how we can keep Akpan, Wright and Anderson after the piss poor showing from this season. We won't get out of League 2 with them 3 playing - that's a given. I think Akpan was the man GB wanted to lead his team - he was made captain and was playing, he then dropped him and eventually left him out completely. I don't see Akpan or Wright being here next season, especially with Devine signing a contract, Anderson being a favourite of GB and Reeves seemingly being a player that GB would like to bring back into the squad if the WOAP article is anything to go by.

Reeves I don't believe will be here next season. Everything on that front seems to me the club are being smart. Think HR then you will understand what I am saying. Reeves hasn't played for over a year. You can pin your hopes on a player how isn't nowhere near match fit!

As for Wright he's under contract and I feel Bowyer does like him. It's up to Wright if he stays or leaves not the club.

Anderson, for some strange reason Bowyer has offered him a contract.

Akpan, not sure what's going on there but like Wright if he is under contract then it's up to him if he stays or goes.

Devine is a local lad so that's why he got offered a contract but it's a total waste of a year for him.

Correct. The only reason he is getting another chance is because he is a Bradford lad.

I'm afraid some more clarity is going to be needed before anyone gives Mr. Reeves a clean slate. if he's going to stay and contribute then thats great but as it stands he's missed a full year of football, and no ones ever told us why, so what are we supposed to think?

Football is all about confidence. When Danny Devine had that run of games - playing in midfield, not defence - under Stuart, for me he improved game by game. Technically, he's more than decent. The more involved he felt, the more confident he became and started to creatively contribute more. Let's not allow this to become another Ollie McBurnie et al. A young player who needs improving and good coaching - and therefore time in or around the first team - or we give up. He goes elsewhere, and lo! Suddenly good coaching set-ups at another club find the player he can be. Who out there honestly said or predicted that Ollie McBurnie was anything above Lg 2 standard at the time? Most City fans were laughing out loud that Swansea were prepared to pay that much for him. Bowyer sees something in Devine. Let's see how good a coach/manager he is re Danny.

Agree. You have to be careful bringing players in on big money. Equality is a big thing. You can be happy with your wage until you find out someone earns more but doesn’t deliver more

We do, but £1.6m of it is already accounted for with the dross that ‘played’ last season. The money is still being spent, even if we are not getting value for it

I would imagine that Bowyer has seen something in him, and spoken to him about his chances of first team football.
he must have assurances he'll get chances.

that and Wright is hopeless anyway he'll be ahead of Wright in the pecking order.

Spot on. If he was like Omari Patrick and plucked from someone else's youth team our fans would actually see how poor he really is, rather than hyping him up because he's "one of our own".

I disagree with this. Homegrown or local players players over the years seem to get more stick than at other clubs. Maybe fans think they should be showing more passion or elements of jealously I don't know but its an annoying Bradford trait and partially explains why we don't bring through much youth. less so than most other clubs.

Just to be clear, 'home grown players' are not the same as 'club developed players' in EFL terms. We now have to have 7(!) home grown players in the matchday squad but all 'home grown' means is that they've been at any EFL or PL club for three years during their development. Cesc Fabregas is a HGP! On the other hand, a club developed player has to have come up through the club's own development route prior to their 19th birthday which is why Devine is a rare commodity at VP these days.

The EFL's rule. Matchday squads are only entitled to have a maximum of 5 loan players. We had 6 on the books - O'Brien, Miller, Payne, Ball, Butterfield and O'Connor - so one of them couldn't be named in the squad.

If true, what’s the point in wasting what small remaining budget we have left on a player who is down the pecking order.

Should we sign 1 or 2 central midfielders, he’s still likely to be behind Anderson, Akpan, Wright (and if he ever gets fit), Reeves.

Give the lad a chance for god sake, he’ll be playing in a division lower , and with a run in the side that will build his confidence might just bring out the player that we hoped he would be. When he was given his chance by Stuart he got better game by game and was harshly dropped ,which would have knocked his confidence big time, especially when he wasn’t even given a bench spot. He then suffered a few bad injuries which would have knocked his confidence even more, but he was finally given another chance at the end of this season and this would have built up his confidence, and he will be looking forward to pre-season. Danny just might surprise us all and become a big part of our league 2 squad.
