How well did the New Zealand team take defeat, as you say the more boundary's situation but also the ball hitting Stokes bat and England getting 6 from the ball, to have hit the bat and gone in one of the few areas that was not covered by fielders and get England another 4 runs would not be done or seen off 1,000,000 balls quite extraordinary game.

True. But so was Bairstow's decision to review a plum LBW and lose us our review.

 

He's been in the team for the last 2 (very successful) years bowling the middle overs. They miscalculated how much they needed him in there to squeeze 2 spinners and 2 quicks in.

 

Why should you get rewarded for finishing top? The rules were known at the start. He should know that the key was finishing in the top 4. He would not have been saying it if he had finished fourth so his statement is circumstantial. This is a knock out tournament. 40 mins of bad play affects all teams

 

ECB and Sky have helped destroy interest in cricket in recent years, similar with F1 as well. They wonder why interest is down, then force people to pay through the nose if they want to watch it. I got into cricket in 2005 watching the ashes on channel 4, so many kids now will slip through the net. Thankfully footballs probably to popular that the major international tournaments will always be on normal tv, but I thought that with the games ITV had of the champions league. Something needs to happen.

 

Wow need a few beers and a cold shower to cool off after an extraordinary couple of hours cricket since coming home from VP!

Cricket at its very best, and hats off to NZ for making a good game of it, and very gracious in defeat, when they must have been heartbroken, especially with the throw that hit Stokes bat and diverted for 4 extra runs

 

It is a real shame that some of the cricket couldn't be put on free to view TV in this country.

I get that Sky have pumped, relatively, a lot of money into cricket; however, it is sad that we have the World Cup going on and many people cannot watch it.

As an aside, I was working in India during the 2003 World Cup. The scenes in the streets when India beat Pakistan...even if we won the football World Cup I doubt it would come close.

To a man, I thought Pakistan were outstanding. The openers were aggressive, disciplined and accumulated runs intelligently. Bowlers were disciplined and the tone set brilliantly by Shadab Khan when he trapped Roy.

Were England complacent? I think their is a case for this. That said, I just think our levels were not up to that of Pakistan today.

The biggest criticism today was how England got frustrated and suffered indiscipline. If they want to be world champions, they will have to control their emotions.

 

Poor bowling and some out of customary poor fielding cost the England team but well done Pakistan who just about deserved the win,

 

Unfortunately, having Moen batting at seven is looking less than clever at the moment. His batting seems to work in inverse proportion to his bowling.

 

Well done England. Bounced back in style today against a very good India side.

Glad we batted first, I always think all the pressure is on the side batting second


Lets go and repeat this on Wednesday now against NZ to book our place in the semi finals, then who knows what might happen

 

england needed that win as pakistan are winning anyhow,anyway.

Been working today so missed most of the game but what stands out to me is england only managed to take 5 wickets today, the other decent teams are more than capable of bowling teams out,even new zealand.
Went to school with a certain Steve Rhodes and will be more than chuffed if he coaches Bangladesh to a victory over Pakistan, but they look a form team now, nothing like the 4-0 friendly hammering they got from England.

True. Dot balls are crucial though. It was strange to see India not go for it more. Ordinarily you would see more wickets from false shots
