Had England used all their reviews up as when Roy was given out England could not review it, and it showed quite clearly he never touched the ball .

True. But so was Bairstow's decision to review a plum LBW and lose us our review.

 

Agree, but it doesn’t excuse poor officiating in a World Cup semifinal. I’ve always held cricket officials above football and rugby for getting decisions right, but since reviews it feels like they aren’t arsed if they get decisions wrong.

 

To be fair, there have been some very good decisions. A lot of reviews have ended up being umpires call.

The one today was a shocker, but the ball did move and in real time I can see why the umpire might have given it.

Anyway, it shouldn't detract from a terrific performance.

Moving on from a fantastic win, and Roy being robbed of a World Cup 100 by a shocker, it’s fantastic that it’ll be on a free channel even if it should have been done for the semis at least as well.

ECB and Sky have helped destroy interest in cricket in recent years, similar with F1 as well. They wonder why interest is down, then force people to pay through the nose if they want to watch it. I got into cricket in 2005 watching the ashes on channel 4, so many kids now will slip through the net. Thankfully footballs probably to popular that the major international tournaments will always be on normal tv, but I thought that with the games ITV had of the champions league. Something needs to happen.

 

I grew up watching Test Matches on the BBC all summer, and as a schoolboy, always made it to Headingley for a couple of days of the test there.

You are right, taking cricket away from mainstream TV, has affected interest without doubt. Also I dont think it is played in schools to the extent it was when I was at school, in fact is it played at all at Secondary School level?

Sadly my local cricket club, Idle, who were a mainstay of the Bradford League for many generations, folded a couple of years ago

I myself wasnt quite good enough for Bradford League, which was one of the strongest local leagues in the country back then, but I did enjoy a few years playing at Thackley in the Aire-Wharfe league

 

I left St Bedes 10 year ago, it was still played then. Not sure now.
