The government still doesn't know how many PEOPLE are getting tested still.

You're missing the important point. The PM originally said that 250,000 people would be tested every day and Handcock later changed it to 100,000 people tested a day. Once the Govt realised they wouldn't achieve their targets, it was subtly changed to 100,000 tests per day (which statisticians have said equates to around 40,000 people tested). And now the Govt is hooked on this new metric which they continue to broadcast. If they now suddenly switch to how many people are being tested (which of course is far more important to everybody than the number of tests conducted), their charade on testing numbers will be obvious to everybody who can count.

Handcock was recently criticised by the Govt's own Statistics Authority for providing misleading information on the number of tests being conducted. He is already getting his ammunition in early. He only said this week that knowing how many people are being tested doesn't help in the battle against coronavirus. FFS!

The testing is a bit of a farce. You do it all yourself after receiving a booklet.
It tells you to put a swab down your throat to touch your tonsils but says the test is invalidated if it touches anything else. You then place the swab up your nose.

All this relies on the person doing the test themselves and therefore will have a massive margin of error.

Some will not push the swab far enough, some will touch other things in their mouth, etc.

I guess this helps because a failed test is a negative test and shows the governement in a good light.

So what's he saying? Places with a high asian community will struggle?

Is he saying those from Leicester will be driving up to Bradford this weekend?

Is he saying that a lot of the asian community might be asymptomatic?

Or is he second guessing and talking rubbish.

Why not just read it again? And do it slowly this time and digest it properly without jumping to conclusions.

He isn't second guessing and he isn't talking rubbish. All he is saying is that the data (not your spin on it) indicates that there are two other areas whose relative no of cases aren't quite as high as Leicester's but are still of concern. Making things up as you've done doesn't add anything to the discussion.

The data yesterday that said about other hotspot area's didn't include Bradford. In the commons Hancock was asked about Coventry, Bradford and Birmingham all high asian area's when he was talking about locking down Leicester. This is why I feel he is mentioning it or got asked the question but I will read it again.

The lockdown in Leicester doesn't mean that these people can't travel.

Look, I hope he's wrong and maybe I am being defensive. I don't live in Bradford but a lockdown for any city would be a disaster.

It all boils down to this:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53244626

The government need to get their act together and get local data more quickly.

Just seen Bradford and Wakefield, along with 34 other areas, are on a list of ‘at risk’ areas that may have to go into Lockdown again. A list that stretches from Cornwall, to London, up to Sunderland and many places in between...Begs the question, what the fck are we (England) coming out of Lockdown so early for? Scotland have toughed it out a bit longer, and are currently recording zero daily deaths.

I believe Professor Neil Ferguson actually posts on Bantam Talk under the username of @Fordy117@Fordy117.

That Keighley slip of the tongue did have more in it than we were led to believe.
Also the new walk in testing centre in Bradford City centre, not the kind of precaution to use if rates are going down, if anything it shows that there is an issue.

Ferguson is saying nothing which contradicts what the BMA is now saying. More local data is required to keep a lid on local outbreaks to stop them developing into someting bigger and together becoming a second wave of the virus which would impact on the entire country. That all sounds very sensible to me

Your issue seems to be that the Govt isn't responding quickly enough to these local outbreaks and what measures are introduced aren't sufficiently tight. I agree with that part. What our Govt is doing contrasts markedly with how Oz is dealing with their outbreak in parts of Melbourne. The Oz Govt reacted overnight to a local outbreak and has instructed its citizens, with the threat of fines, not to travel, not to meet up with others, not to leave Melbourne and has re-introduced quarantine measures on flights. We on the other hand needed several days before asking politely for people to adhere to the previous lockdown advice. And we wonder why England's mortality rate is one of the highest in Europe.

Our high BAME population is a factor, apparently (as it is for a number of other regions on the watchlist).

I do genuinely believe the Keighley comment was a genuine slip of the tongue, and he meant to say Kirklees for no other reason than mixing up his place names.

Let’s hope a review of the data shows it’s not as bad as they fear?
I expect it to come with an announcement before Saturday when pubs etc are set to reopen?

It would fall under the local authority? I think. So the area Bradford council covers? I am not sure

Cleckheaton has a BD postcode too. As does Scholes, Birkenshaw, Gomersal and Drighlington. None of which are part of Bradford council.

Would it be council or postcodes where a lockdown would be enforced?
