Most people on the benefit system actually need it, you don’t hear about them, you only hear about the ones abusing it, and we all know why that is, bread and butter for The Sun and the likes.
All systems have flaws, nothing will ever be perfect. I know of 1 person, who’s furloughed all his 20+ staff, but kept on his 2 sons, he’s claiming furlough for his 2 sons whilst they’re still working, that’s abusing the system.
Does that mean we should get rid of this furlough system, to stop people abusing it? Of course not, that would be stupid, it only hurts the people that need it, the majority.

There are obvious deficiencies within the NHS for multiple reasons. But it doesn't mean it isn't an effective service at the point of need. Privatizing it cannot and should not be an option.RCarol, Skyebantam, WilsdenBantam and 4 others like this. -

There is a huge amount of thinking to be done before it is conceivable that schools go back to anything like they were.
Managing social distancing will be almost impossible, especially in primary schools. Young children just do not get it, understandably. Additionally, schools are designed for space usage to be maximised. There is not the room to support desks being 2 metres apart.
We don’t know the role of children as carriers or transmitters of the virus.
Would PPE be provided for staff? Latest information I can find
, from the OECD in 2019, is that only 1 in 3 primary school teachers in the UK are under age 30. A significant amount of teachers will fall into the category of vulnerable or live with people who are deemed vulnerable. I fully recognise that right now there are hundreds of thousands of people performing roles in the NHS, in supermarkets, as delivery drivers or as other key public service workers who are having to deal with it now. They are not getting the protection they should, we all know that. I’d say the priority is to get those aspects of how we as a society operate better managed and then take that into the education sector.
How will the drop off and pick up be managed? I’ve worked in plenty of schools and I struggle to see how you can safely disperse 400 plus children at broadly the same time. You will immediately create thousands of mass gatherings of 800+ people across the country twice a day. May as well not have bothered with all the sacrifices that people are currently making.
I can see it being viable to have reduced class sizes, attendance on only a few days a week etc, which will help with the children’s education but that will not be sufficient as free childcare to support the economy.
As a teacher, I would love to get back into school and with the children. It is very hard knowing the lives that many children lead and how the lockdown will be impacting on them. However, it cannot be as it was before the schools closed.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... I've avoided getting into political/ideological discussion during the lockdown as I don't think it is helpful. However, I honestly believe we went into the lockdown too late. Our PM was busy shaking hands with people, against advice, which possibly nearly cost him his life.
I had a ticket to see a thrash metal concert on 7th March with three bands. Testament/Exodus/Death Angel who were finishing off their European tour, having been to Spain and Italy for example. I chose not to go as I have diabetes and didn't want to be in a confined space with 2,000 other people. At that point, Italy and Spain were closing down. We kept going for another three weeks allowing Cheltenham to go ahead etc. Subsequently, band and crew members from those groups developed the virus - a couple nearly died.
Our death toll is now the highest in Europe. Our leaders should have done better for us, including starting the lockdown sooner. That isn't hindsight, it was clear what needed to happen.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...RCarol, Skyebantam, Tolly856 and 4 others like this. -
Those who buy the bonds and therefore own the debt will be pension funds, insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions, foreign investors, foreign Govts, all of whom want a reliable return from a G7 Govt for their own financial purposes and are guaranteed to have the IOU's paid back by the Govt at some point in the future. Small private investors also have a small part to play. Anybody with national savings or premium bonds 'owns' a part of the national debt whether they realise it or not.RCarol, Hulmebantam, How and 4 others like this. -

STAY AWAY from Filey beach it’s all kicking off there with the heat.
Friends witnessed totally disgusting behavior on the front yesterday. A man and woman arguing in front of a load of kids then she smacked him on the head and it all kicked off between them, the police turned up and the policeman ended up using his baton on the bloke but the man actually managed to get the baton off the copper and started hitting the copper and the woman with it.
Then a crocodile turned up and stole all the sausages as the man shouted 'Thats the way to do it'!Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Stafford Bantam, Offside, Bronco and 4 others like this. -

It really does baffle me that people want the government to have a large say on every single aspect of their lives.
And weirdly the ones who dislike the government the most are the ones who want them to be most involved in their lives. Bizarre.BradfordBanter, Idlebantam, Rogered Tart and 4 others like this. -

Like with most things people will always have different opinions, there will always be contradictory evidence. The only thing I'm trying to get across is that many people are indoctrinated to never question authority, and that's a dangerous thing.bantamdave41, Hulmebantam, Offside and 4 others like this. -
