I meant fear in terms of them getting battered in the press and like in the USA I can see protests.

Labour can overturn an 80+ majority if Boris messes this current situation up. He is no fool. This could ruin him.

People dying, people losing their jobs, people will start losing their homes, kids losing their education...this is any governments worse nightmare! Hence why Trump wants to pass the hot potato and get people back to work.

12/18 months of this! Labour could close the gap with ease...

The Balearic Government are talking of tourists returning here at the end of the year
The islands need tourism, but they have seen how tourists behaved when Spain went into lockdown and how some behave in UK
Lives or tourists? may be tourists will be a long time coming

Looks like Exercise Cygnus is heading back to the mainstream media again, there is an article in todays Guardian with Hancock and Gove with questions to answer and it ends with this pearler, " A Department Of Health spokesman(un-named typical!) said the UK was one of the most prepared countries in the world for pandemics".
You couldn't make it up, well this lot can.

If. They will not be fully open. They may extend the key worker scheme to cover more workers and therefore increase numbers but no where near open fully

    They'll.

Mate you have to understand that the extra 3 week lockdown is what most of the world are doing. It's not solely a U.K. thing.

5 stages is bollocks..it will be 3 weeks, economy v health and economy will win but it will be done in stages like leaked today but to take pressure off parents you open primary schools.

You don't want be be damaging the mental health of young children. Some young children best meals come at school. Parents will try to self teach but they can't do it.

Other countries that eased lock down opened up primary schools and it makes perfect sense to me.

About bloody time! Thanks, I'll try and find a liink to the Guardian's article.

The journos of all shades and opinion have allowed this to creep under the wire without investigating it thoroughly. Now that one newspaper has picked it up, the rest will probably follow and hopefully start to ask some tough questions not just of Handcock and Gove but also of May, Johnson and Hunt who were all in the Cabinet when the report was kicked into the long grass. They are all culpable in this.

Maybe one of the journos will have the balls to ask a question about it at the next daily briefing instead of some of the inane stuff which is being asked? Or maybe not!

Edit - I think I've found the Guardian report you referred to ...

Spain will be 9 weeks by time the end of their current extension finishes. That would mean another 3 weeks for us to do the same

None as yesterday but unlike here countries like Germany have outlined their plans and in May they will. Denmark and others too.

Don't compare the time of total lockdown.

We started late because we were too busy ignoring the issue.

The lockdown is a world one and May it will end as countries will start to break from it.

Denmark are partially reopening schools with strict distance between tables in primary school, not all pupils back, and more classes outside. So not fully open at all

    They will.

Look, over the next 2-3 weeks the government will be doing things like that. Telling schools what they want them to do, telling shops, DIY, garden centres and Hairdressers the same.

The leak today didn't come from the air. It will be a rough frame work of how they intend to do the things and it will be in stages but primary schools opening is key!

We talk about child abuse etc and these kids look up to their teachers and it's a way of some of them letting them know all is not well at home.

This virus is awful but we can't, cant keep on ignoring other issues in the world!

Primary school kids need to go back ASAP!

We're in massive danager of creating wider issues long term because we are dealing with one problem.

Yup.They just did. It's the most shameless barefaced lie imaginable.
We were one of the most prepared countries in the world for pandemics in 2010. Now we're a shambles. Only one government to blame for that and there's no running away from it. 5th largest economy in the world and we're begging for basic medical supplies like an undeveloped third world banana republic, because of the decisions they made, or ran away from..
Any government can make a mistake in times of stress. This one didn't just make one, it made every mistake it possibly could.

Good news and well done Denmark. It also stops those companies who continue to pay dividends or do a share buy-back to claim the assistance from their Govt. Had we done something similar, it should have stopped Spurs for example from furloughing their staff only days after declaring a dividend for its owners.

I wonder how the UK Govt will deal with the tax exile Branson's demand for a huge loan for his Virgin airline?
