Plans are (quietly) being put into place for teachers and schools although I've not heard any rumours of 16 weeks off school.

Initially children will be sent home with packs that will last a week or 2. After that it will be teaching via online facilities so teachers will plan and deliver lessons probably by recorded clips I would imagine and be available for q&a during school hours. Work can be submitted electronically, marked and feedback returned.

The problem will be the children who don't have internet access or access to devices to work on but that can be sorted with laptops and mobile dongles eventually.

Don't worry, your teachers will still be teaching your kids but differently for a time.

I worry about the children on free school meals and hope they have plans in place to distribute meals.

Be a great time to make a zombie movie in town. Everywhere shut with no one around, just mutants walking around. Just another normal day in Bradford then.

Whatever your political leanings, everybody has to unite to fight this, including the political parties. None of this them and us mentality, they have to work together, as long as Labour ditch Corbyn!

As a Brexiteer, I admit that exit talks now have to be put on the backburner as it is way down the list of priorities right now. If that means a further delay of 12 months, so be it

Did you not see the post I did the other day explaining how the teachers will still be teaching?

Confirmed closing on Friday now and no end point in sight. There's a lot of very vulnerable children out there that have lost their safe space. Worrying times that won't be bettered by economical disaster.

@Fordy117@Fordy117, I despair at those ppl ‘who think it doesn’t apply to them’ going out nilly willy. Very irresponsible. There are wonderful doctors and nurses risking their own lives in order to help and treat ppl, and these selfish ppl don’t give a toss.

I have seen pictures of people queue round the block for one last McDonald's. We are dealing with idiots who prioritise a Big Mac over their own life ffs

These idiots that blatantly flout the restrictions asked of them are a cancer on society. They're easy to spot, the same fecktards that light barbecues on parched moorland, who drive cars through groups of football fans, the list is endless. The only defining feature of this group that sets them together is their complete lack of intelligence.

Let's face it, Johnson could single handedly cure the Corona Virus and some would find fault. I agree that he should be accountable, I just find it quite sad that plenty choose to point score at this particular time. No prime minister in a couple of generations has had to deal with anything like this. Dammed if he does, damned if he doesn't.

There not in isolation - they’ll have a minimum of one parent with them. If that parent properly cares and nurtures that child, getting them to open up and talk with them, then everything will be fine. If that parent tells them to fk off into another room, or decides to look at Facebook whilst the kid try’s to talk to them, then there’s going to be issues.

How do you expect other posters to respond when you make such mind-boggling statements? I recall my mother being in hospital several years ago in her 80's puting a drain on the NHS resources as you so politely put it. With the skills and care of the doctors and nurses doing the jobs they were trained to do, she recovered and was discharged. And now in her 90's she's still reasonably active although you would probably call it not having any quality of life. So I suggest you keep your enforced euthenasia nonsense to yourself!

If tougher measures do follow, I hope the ire is directed towards the people responsible and not those who've had to take the decision. Its been well publicized that tougher measures shouldn't be needed if everyone does their bit and makes an element of sacrifice, takes an element of pain. Even before the weekend, the message couldn't have been clearer - yes the sun will be shining but the rules don't change. We're at a crucial point in trying to flatten the infection curve. If tougher measures follow, it'll be entirely at the door of the morons who haven't listened.

Here’s a thought. How about the queen gives a few quid of that money she leeches off the state to help the NHS, yeh?..Or maybe not, just a message on the telly to keep the masses in line will do.

All about the timing. You are absolutely right, there is nothing new in what she has said. However, this crisis has exposed the fault lines in the way we are governed and how ideology will almost inevitably be superceded by events.

I actually think she is doing an important role. She does have a platform to speak from and it is at times like this, a crisis, that long-lasting change can happen. It needs to be a change that benefits the vast majority of society. The value of certain jobs has been demonstrated, a value that market forces fails to adequately remunerate. There are millions of low-paid workers risking their lives at the moment for the wider benefit of society. Often while their employers make vast profits which are redistributed for the benefit of the already wealthy.

The role of the state for the next generation is going to be more important than at any time since the Second World War. It needs to provide direction, and control where necessary, to help rebuild the country in a way that reduces inequality.

We are in risky territory at the moment. The request, understandable in the circumstances, to shop people for not complying with lockdown is not a million miles away conceptually from the operation of the Stasi. I am sure that we will need to accept curtailment of some liberties as we work through the management of this virus, but that needs to be done transparently and for the greater good. We need to be mindful of the impact of decisions for the greater good and how they filter down into the lives of those might be impacted adversely.

That is the challenge for us all going forwards and I believe it needs people like Emily Maitlis to call it out and challenge.

What we are living through now would be a challenge for any Government, regardless of their left/right credentials. I honestly believe it is the role of the BBC to ask questions of how the Government is doing, to share where things are working and to highlight where they are not.

Perfect example of contrast being my wife and her sister. Same family, very much a working class upbringing and far from happy home life. My wife has worked her bits off to help our family get ahead, we’ve had to make sacrifices and overcome difficult times etc, but she’s always been a worker. Her sister has never really had a job in her life. 4 kids to 3 different blokes, out for every benefit she can get, moans because the 4 bed, taxpayer funded house she’s given ‘doesn’t have a garden’. During this covid crisis, she’s been going to her youngest’s primary school,to collect free school meals for all 4 kids, then to the secondary school to do the same. Laughing openly that ‘it means I don’t have to cook their tea and can spend it on extra scratch cards’. With no sense of shame or irony that it may mean she’s doing other kids out of a meal. It disgusts me, and lets not pretend its only a handful of people who are up to it.
