But stopping social activities is panicking.

    Stopping school is worrying.

I would be much happier if they banned non U.K. Travel in and no one coming in for 30 days like what Tramp has done with Europe.

Then we look to contain it our way.

I'd also suggest stocking up food and toilet paper is panicking but unfortunatly we've seen that's what some people are doing, you can only give people advice whether they take that advice is a different thing.

people say it is panicking but if you look at Italy now where they are further into it people have now been told to stay at home unless absolutely necessary so those that ‘panicked’ and stocked up when there was less risk don’t have to go out as much during a riskier period.

I think the government will be listening to the best scientific evidence available. I am expecting more restrictions on all manner of things. Schools have to close because children do get the virus but they are mild, or none existence but they can still spread the virus.

As individuals we now have a very clear civic responsibility to make sure that you not only do you protect your self ie wash hands, wiping down surfaces with hot soapy bleached water. We also have a civic duty to protect others. When you go out take care, if you do touch surfaces out side, gel or wash hands, try not to touch your face. Make sure you cough or sneeze into a tissue and gel or wash hands, or if you can’t use the inside or your elbow.

It looks like we won’t be live at VP anytime soon. I heard football matches are going to be the first casualty.

I'm guessing you're in the 60+ bracket Tony. If I get it I'll be poorly for a bit and get better. If you get it you might need someone to wipe your arse for you.

I have friends and family in the at risk ages and state of health. It's around 20% of the population seriously at risk. If we don't act we'll end up like Italy.

Do the absolute minimum any government should do. Protect it’s citizens.

Me and you can mitigate against it Tony, but if folk want to carry on as normal, then there’s not a lot me and you can do about it. That’s when the Government needs to step in.

That Liverpool game last night should have been behind closed doors, and I hate to say it, so should the Cheltenham festival. Small sacrifices in the grand scheme of things.

I agree. However, not a great deal seems to work. You basically have to shut the country down to stop it. Furthermore there is no guarantees that once you start to unlock the country it won’t come back. There is still a lot we don’t know about this virus so governments are using their best scientific knowledge on viruses in general and limited research from China and now Italy.

The one fact we know about viruses is they hang around on hard surfaces, therefore hand washing is essential to protect yourself. Obviously every time you go to the toilet, but also before you prepare food, before you eat. If you are in an office clean your desk and hardware down before you start work, lunchtimes and before you go home and always wash your hands after each time. This sounds bonkers to many people but we are now living in a harmful environment and ppl need to get their head round it.

I agree with both of you on this. The government have to allow for ppl to become accustomed to our new environment, but they also need to lead and yes it will not be popular but you have to protect the public. For instance I would like to see Twitter and social media bombarded with the message on hand washing and not touching their face, very hard not to do. However a number of ppl I have seen are dismissive of the need to hand wash! So explain the science behind it, show how much bacteria and viruses accumulate on hands and how by touching surfaces you leave the virus on that surface.

There needs to be a suspension of the fixtures. Forcing clubs to play behind closed doors will only have a negative financial impact on clubs at our level. I saw Darragh McAnthony this morning say playing behind closed doors for the rest of the season could cost Posh 500k. I'd assume most clubs in L1/2, including ourselves can't afford that.

Exactly, that's just a rehash of something they found on twitter. The T&A is such a shit paper they only can tempt in readers with overblown panic stories about the virus.

Surely professional clubs should have things in place, either through insurance themselves, or schemes through the ruling professional bodies to stop losses brought on by playing games behind closed doors through something beyond their control. Questions need to be asked if not. It’s not unheard of for games to be behind closed doors.

I’m guessing the suspension of games will have a similar cost.

Doubt it. That figure, as well as what Kieran Maguire said on radio leeds last night was based on match day revenue with and without supporters present. If the games are suspended, the whole point will be to protect that revenue when the games can be played with supporters present.

The problem is they don’t know when this will end.
