The fact that there are probably hundreds if not thousands of research labs around the world looking for a workable vaccine for Covid-19 is reassuring. But the common cold virus is also a member of the coronavirus family and after decades of research, a vaccine for the common cold has never been produced because it mutates so easily! That's one of the reason why scientists remain concerned about the potential implications of Covid-19.

Bloody hell! Things are getting serious when the footballing authorities are considering delaying the money-spinning Euro's until next year!

Edit - Just been told that the opening FI grand prix of F1 in Melbourne has been postponed because one of the teams' members has proved positive for the virus. I haven't seen any confirmation of that as yet.

I am wondering whether they can use some of the anti viral medicine that is used for patients with HIV? If it worked it could be a win win situation as they have already been tested. They might mitigate some of the more serious cases.

Focusing on Football and the impact of the virus on the game, then this is an update.

On Thursday, La Liga became the latest European league to be suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Spanish top-flight has been suspended for "at least the next two rounds of matches".

In addition, the Danish Football Association has cancelled all football activities in the country for two weeks while the Netherlands' Eredivisie has been suspended until 31 March.

In Italy, Serie A is suspended until 3 April, with the country in lockdown and two players - Juventus' Daniele Rugani and Sampdoria's Manolo Gabbiadini - having tested positive.

Matches in the top two leagues in France are being played behind closed doors while two Europa League last-16 first-leg fixtures scheduled for Thursday have been postponed and a number will be played behind closed doors, including Manchester United's trip to Austria to face LASK.The

What would happen if say the Premier league for this season was cancelled and they annouced it as void with no relegation, but the EFL continued and Leeds finished top. I doubt the EFL would have the balls to stand up to the PL. Would make for an entertaining scenario.

Government moving from ‘Containment’ to ‘Delay’ phase according Nichola Sturgeon . A potential impact is that spectators attending actual football matches, may be suspended.

But only in Scotland, and not for safety reasons of those at the games but to free up emergency services for work elsewhere

No change as far as football atm, taking evidence from public services to see if it takes personel. away from the crisis.

It's in everyone's best interest to avoid big gatherings, that simple really.

    I definitely wouldn't be plane hopping like @PlatinumChaosX@PlatinumChaosX o_O

Wow watching the United match and this is awful. I’ve been to tier 8 matches with more atmosphere. It just doesn’t feel right. Based on this they have to cancel all football rather than play behind closed doors

It was an as well as frightening. The scientist said that they don’t want to stop it dead in its track, because we need ppl who are not at risk to build up immunity in the country. It is calle Herd Immunity, one it gets to 90% immunity this protects the elderly and vulnerable.

Zest for life people, those probably relieved that if they get coronovirus, they aren't suffering from tubercolosis.

Agree with that, nobody will be happy whatever happens but I'd call it as season ended and all positions stand.

It's not simple at all. Plane hopping for many of us carries a far lower risk than our occupations.

    I'd prefer null and void

    Start again next year

Positions can’t stand I believe. I don’t know what the English regulations are but in general 80% of a sport competition needs completed to be considered complete. It would have to be fully voided right now
