Anyone over 60 or compromised would be mad to go to football on Saturday. In fact, anyone going at all could be making a mistake because they are not be up to speed with rapidly unfolding events. I've been following stats daily for two months and cases have generally grown at about very roughly 20% per day in most countries until serious containment kicks in, although they bounce around quite a lot from day to day. Countries that contained early seem to have done better. We are not in that group. Some hospitals in Italy have been overwhelmed like in China. Tweets have said that a few hospital casualty departments are having to choose which patients to save and are turning away some that are compromised . I hope such tweets might be exaggerations because they sound truly horrendous. On the basis of this, and UK growth rates still trending up around 15-20% per day over time (19% yesterday), we should be closing all but absolutely necessary public transport and gatherings. I expect the COBRA meeting will announce something along these lines today. Failure to do so would be very unwise in my opinion.

The reported Twitter comments are very alarming:

I've seen the quote I was asking for a break down, I find it hard to believe in our case our last 5 games will cost us £500k, £100k a game, the two clubs mentioned are both league one so maybe they would have higher costs, as I say a breakdown of cost would be interesting.

Won't go on that long I don't think. I'd imagine we'll hit the peak within the next 3-4 weeks and then we resume the season maybe playing saturday, tuesday every week. The playoff schedule and Wembley could be an issue though. But I think the sensible thing for UEFA to do is postpone the Euros until next summer because all the European leagues will be finishing late by the looks of it.

probably won’t cost us that but £100k is only 5,000 pay £20 a time, and that doesn’t include the sale of pies etc.

Come on £100k a week, anyway back to topic, if games are behind closed doors does anyone think the game would be televised or will it just be players football management and anyone else who are required to get the game played.

Looks like no behind closed doors.

It will be just urging people like yourself to stay indoors.

Oh and no closing of schools and shutting the boarder(which I think is a mistake)

The thing is as @Onside@Onside says the numbers may decrease but until they come up with an anti-virus it could easily start again.
One presenter was saying once you've had the virus you build up your own amunity to it and can't get it again whist others have said that's not correct

I would guess all spectator sports will be go closed doors or be cancelled imminently and not return to any normality before the end of May, by which time the virus is likely to have past its peak and herd immunity will sufficient that future spread is slow enough to return to normal. There will be much disruption and grief between now and then. I don't see how any business/institution can continue to open if it can't ensure safety of customers/patrons.

I thank you for your concern @Fordy117@Fordy117 but apart from being the wrong side of 70 I have no other health conditions that might add to the virus, as has been discussed its older people with other conditions that are more at risk, but if it's being broadcast I'm more than happy to watch it from my home, the wife will have to put some ear plugs in .

The rumour is that it is still steady as you go from government! It looks like if that is the case we are diverging from what other countries are doing, big call. However they are getting advice from our scientist. We will have to see.

We must hope that we can come up with a vaccine.

Ireland has just announced closure of schools and child care from tomorrow, along with no indoor events over 100 people and outdoor events over 500. (Ireland's infection density is about the same as the UK's.)

It will take a long time before a vaccine has been identified, tested and is ready for largescale production. In any event, a vaccine for a virus is only a preventative measure which is why kids receive the MMR vaccine at a young age and many people in the UK have a flu jab every year before the flu season starts. Having the jab once we've been infected with a flu virus is pointless. There aren't 'vaccines' to counter the virus once the host, ie us, has been infected. We are all dependent on our immune systems to kill off the virus once that's happened. That's one of the reasons why older people (whether they have an underlying health issue or not) and people with some other auto-immune illnesses are more at risk because their own immune system is already weaker than the rest of the population.

I understand that it will take time, but at least we have the World trying to find one. Of course no point in giving the vaccine to ppl who have already have the virus. However, once you have had and if this virus behaves like others you will be immune from this strain. As you get older your immune system is not as robust.

3 Leicester City players now in self-isolation and this follows the postponement of the Man City v Arsenal game. No doubt Leicester City's last opponents are now considering their options, as will Arsenal's opponents since their Europa League tie. This will snowball.
