The death rate is very high in Italy compared to other countries probably because they have an older population than most.

Highly likely to be linked to those with serious pre-existing health problems

Yes carry on at normal. At Cheltenham everyone having a great time and getting on with their life.

The reason I said stop travel is if it's an extreme case. No international travel! Contain it in each country. The problem has been the movement of people.

@banbrotam@banbrotam might know better than me but the people dying from this have underline Heath issues. England as a county has a number of unfit lazy people in it.

Italy has a lot of dirty water and like @banbrotam@banbrotam says they do connect differently.

The government are handling this correctly, don't be scared. Go about your business and wash your hands.

When it's quoted "underlying health problems" they don't mean being unfit or over weight although neither are good for older people, there talking about older people with heart conditions, blood pressure, diabetes, etc, not because they feed there faces on KFC or McDonald's ;)

And in another five days it could have increased tenfold.

I don't get your point. Nobody's saying it's not increasing - it's the rate of increase that causes the issue.

For example a 3000 increase at an average of 100 a day for a month, is a fraction of what is needed to get to the closing stadiums (again specific places might need this). However if we suddenly get 3000 in the next week, then that's different

It's unsurprising that there is so much worry, when even the normally pragmatic and sensible Merkel comes out with nonsense scare figures, earlier today - quickly shouted down by her own country's medical advisors

It's simply going to be a risk assessment based for each event. For instance we have one case (as of yesterday) Leyton Orient, i.e. London have around 90. Justification to say to their fans not to attend? Perhaps, but a bit OTT. Justification for the match to be played behind closed doors? No

The problem is that too many politicians (Merkel, Trump for instance) see this as a controllable linear thing - bugs simply don't behave like that - they're as moody as we currently are and certainly as unpredictable as our team is!!

Anyone who has asthma is classed as having a chronic respiratory disease.

Those undergoing treatment for Cancer with chemotherapy, will have a lowered immunity.

All the UK deaths have stated that they had 'one or more' (paraphrase) of these, i.e. you've generally got to be have debilitating health issues in the first place

My grandaughter has very poor kidney function as one has been destroyed after an e-coli incident - clearly, even though she's only 9, she's at risk

All the best on that Dave. We're not there yet - Belle, bless her a lovely girl and the only one who bothers to give me a cuddle when she see's me, is coping on the one, but it is functioning lower than is normal for her age, so it's an obvious worry

This discussion is 10 times better than talking about the Bantams :p

My only point, and it wasnt a dig, is that you stated, with your scientific head, that it is unlikely that it will increase here has it did in Italy. But I still dont get how you can be so sure?.

Just checked. Apparently ‘8 million people – over 12% of the population – have been diagnosed with asthma‘. Even if, ‘...many children diagnosed with asthma grow out of it. Asthma UK states that around 5.4 million people receive treatment for the disease’.

Looking at the data in respect of cancer, which is a little dated, then between 2015-2017, then 367,167 cases were diagnosed.

The numbers at risk is substantial, just looking at those two conditions.

Sorry to read about your Grandaughter. It always breaks my heart to hear of child illnesses and conditions.

I think people are forgetting that its not just the elderly that have health issues that are at risk of this virus
