You’ve missed the point. WHY would they sign anything offered in January? They had contracts already and knew they would be free agents to move as they pleased, come the summer.

Do you really think they would sign? They wouldn’t have and that also isn’t rocket science...!

 

We will never know because the contract extensions were never offered - THAT was the mistake. Everything was pretty hunky dory last January, confidence was sky high, the players had belief in themselves and each other that they could get promoted. Given that, (apart from perhaps Marshall who wanted to move more for family reasons), why wouldn't they have signed?

 

Well, Mezza wanted guaranteed higher level football. So why wouldn’t he have waited 6mths to secure better options. McCall didn’t want Darby and was happy to cash in on Clarke.

So that leaves McArdle. Yes, we could have offered him a deal. Yes he may have signed it. And yes, his arse may have dropped as far as Vincelot’s has.

As I said, many on here would be happy for him to move on this summer, but wanted him tying down before Christmas. Now it will be very difficult to get him off the books. Offering deals in January goes both ways

 

Because as I've said, there was a lot of belief in the team at that time that they could secure championship football - Meredith indicated in an interview with the T&A that he was interested in signing an extension, he just hadn't been asked. I expect you are going to tell me he was lying though.

 

Sorry fella, but this has been covered before by others. Mezza did say he would be interested in signing an extension BUT did go on to say it can wait...!

He didn’t say he WOULD sign a new deal that January. He said he’s like to stay and sign, BUT we all know that would only have happened had we got promoted. As I said, others have covered this before on a different thread.

 

Doesn't change the fact that it was a mistake NOT to offer him a deal in January. I know others have covered this previously but everyone seems to forget that Meredith had previous with this and ended up having to come back begging to the club with his tail between his legs. If he was offered a deal in January, I think there would have been a very strong chance he would have signed rather than risk that happening again.

 

But no one is entitled to a refund.

 

Do you live in a parallel universe ? Tordoff not Simpson wouldn’t sanction us signing Curle and Townsend. Simpson took over the club in the early 1990’s.

 

Simpson had no money. He owned a two bob travel agents on manor row. He had no purse strings to loosen

What doesn’t change is the fact that neither you nor I know whether we did speak to his agent in January or not. As has been said already, there is no evidence that we didn’t offer him an extension but it was HIS choice to wait until the end of the season.

The club confirmed publically that all contract renewals could wait until the end of the season as didn't want to rock the boat on morale, and wanted everyone focussed on promotion.

They were never going to sign new contracts because they both wanted to go in the summer for their own reasons. Stop trying to use more false reasons to beat up the club.

Spot on. See @HUDDERSSBANTAM, it’s not as straightforward as not offering a deal. There may have been preliminary talks whereby the PLAYER said they want to wait and not just the club

 

I can no more prove we didn't offer him a deal than you can prove we did. My belief however is that we didn't, I think we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

 

I can assure you I am not in any way trying to beat up the club. I just happen to believe a deal was not offered to Meredith in January 2017 and if I'm right in my belief, it was a massive mistake.
