Rupps not putting money in... BUT he's not taking money out and we have a decent player budget

If they buy for 10 million I very much doubt they will inject a few more million into the squad straight away

don't you think any new owner will want to recoup the investment asap.. if anything player budget could be slashed and cheap season tickets gone

Plus they might stick there oar in all the time... I'd rather have a silent owner who leaves us to it than a new owner in the news all the time

Be careful what you wish for

He really, really isn't - we're not performing well on the pitch but things could be exponentially worse.

Sheffield Wednesday owner announced yesterday that they need to raise 2 million quickly to pay HMRC and doubtful wether wages will be paid next month, that’s a bad owner. Rupp is a reluctant owner but he’s not a bad person, a bad owner, a little unambitious in not investing some of his fortune but he doesn’t deserve this abuse and when Rahic almost wrecked the club he always said he had a duty of care to keep the club going when his advisors told him to write off the club.

I come at it from a slightly different perspective.

I start from Rupp's position that he spent around €8.7mill of his own cash to buy the club initially and to clean up the mess created by his former partner. All he wants now is an investment which pays its way and doesn't require him to dip into his own pocket again. He has no empathy with the club itself (other than to protect his own investment) and has little if any emotional attachment. That's very different to most fans but understandable from his perspective. His only real interest in the club is to maintain it as a saleable asset which is how it is and not to sell it at a loss.. And that has little to do with football other than to sustain big crowds and to use that as a means of creating commercial opportunities via ticket sales, sponsorship, advertising etc.

He's never going to be a Huw Jenkins or MacAnthony who as owners are very much involved in the footballing aspects of their clubs. It's not his thing. I don't attach any blame on him for this. I do however want him to sell the club on to somebody who will have more of an interest in all aspects of the club including the footballing aspects and be willing to invest to help the club develop. Until that happens (or he is willing to sell for less than he has paid for it!) I don't expect things to change dramatically.

Is this a windup? Why change from an owner who clearly has no interest? Who has seen 7 years of decline? Hired and fired 9 managers? Hired and fired 2 directors of recruitment? Hired communication head of with no experience of running a football operation?

He epitomises what’s wrong with this club which is a lack of footballing competence.

Park, I find your inability to accept criticism of how the club is run excruciatingly painful. We have massively under achieved since losing the play off final to Millwall 6 years ago, regardless of appointing so-called "promising" managers during that time. Please take off your biased rose-tinted specs and just bloody admit we are a rudderless ship and have been for some time, and things must change at the top starting with Sparks, Gent & possibly Rupp

Us fans follow the club year in, year out and have been constantly fed bullshit. It is time for a change

You appear to have completely missed @Ashton Bantam@Ashton Bantam ’s point @Park bantam@Park bantam .
Unless I’m mistaken, what Ashton was getting at is this: if we had an experienced football person either as owner or as a DoF, they would not have allowed Hughes to throw the baby out with the bath water, nor Sparks to sign off on the legions of has-beens and never-will-be’s that we signed over the summer (despite promising a leaner, meaner, quality-over-quantity squad this year). They’d have said, “we just need to make some improvements on the squad that got to the playoffs and we’ll have a squad to challenge for the automatics. We need quality replacements for Critchlow and Banks, genuine striker competition/cover for Cook, a decent creative midfielder and a left sided attacker, not a posse of centre backs, untried wingbacks and so on”.

Instead of which we’ve ended up with an even more bloated squad than last year, far too many of which are clearly not good enough. I would be very surprised if several of the new managerial candidates, having looked at the inadequate, unbalanced squad and been told there’s no significant money in January to improve it, haven’t said, “Thanks, but no thanks”.

Definitely time to move on from Stefan.

I appreciate Rupp's effort at stability in the wake of Rahic's buffoonery, but the guy has never given the impression he wanted to be here for anything other than the sake of his investment, which I couldn't give two hoots about.

Let's just hope we get lucky with the next one, and it happens ASAP.

These past few years have been a very sad footnote in our on-pitch history, with next to nothing to celebrate. Enough is enough for the blokes who won't accept mediocrity but produce nothing but.

I truly hope there is some substance in these takeover rumours.

The club needs a full reset.

Rupp, Sparks and Gent out please.

The only thing our club has got going for it is our fantastic support and we deserve far better than this complete shambles we have endured since Rupp and Rahic rocked up

When Deloittes publish their review of football every two years, one of the points they make consistently is that the single biggest variable in club performance is the correlation between the playing budget and success. That's the case whether it's the elite level of European football or the lower levels. That correlation reduces as you move down the football pyramids. Big playing budgets are no guarantee of success but a club has a better chance of success with a bigger budget than with a smaller one!

A few years ago in Parky's days, I recall ML saying they'd provided Parky with a 'competitive' budget whatever that might mean. Somebody I know managed to get hold of a copy of the SCMP letter which every club receives just after the transfer window closes and provides information on clubs' playing budgets, all done anonymously of course. It was a hand-written annotated copy with many clubs identified. He worked out that our 'competive' budget was in reality a mid table budget - by definition, competitive with other mid table clubs! ML was challenged on this and finally acknowledged that ours was 10th or 11th in scale. When I hear posters still refer to having a competitive budget, I am reminded of what ML had said. It's just a way of avoiding more difficult questions and some still fall for it.

Yes, most costs are increasing over time and that includes players' wages. The reality is that our playing budget has barely changed in the last four years which means it has reduced in real terms. Which begs the question, how is a playing budget reducing in real terms being managed? By having a fewer number of players overall? Nope. By paying less for players of a similar quality than before? Highly unlikely since there is no evidence that players wages have declined in real terms. Or having a lower quality of player overall? There is really only one answer.

Last seen 2 weeks and 2 days ago. So file in the same folder as ‘Odsal Superdome’. Creative(ish) unsubstantiated gibberish. However at some point in the future, the club will be sold/taken over and then you will get an ‘l told you so’ post!! The fact that it will be coincidental and totally unrelated to anything they think they know, will be brushed over.

I don't want to fall out with you Kev, but don't you think coming on here day after day giving us your life story in business, and telling us all about the inner workings of whatever organisations you worked in, might just get a little bit tedious for the rest of us?

I think you've inadvertently proven @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam point there though Park

If we had a proper structure and strategic direction in place the club would've realised that we were close last year and just needed to tweak what we had - replace Banks, Crichlow, Ridehalgh and add another centre mid with competition for Cook too.

Instead what we got was a scattergun approach doing a complete U turn in on field tactics signing players which, if we're honest, wouldn't have been on the radar of Stockport/Mansfield/Wrexham etc let alone actually sign them.

This is where the club fails. The revenue growth is to be applauded, bit u til someone with interest and ability comes in to direct the footballing side, we are where we are and will continue to be so.

So I am going to make an assumption here, are you suggesting we shouldn’t question where the money is going because it is obvious that non football financial activity has now taken precedence over actual football? My questions are this, If our football playing budget has actually decreased over the last 4 years, why hasn’t our non football activity decreased in real terms? It is the equivalent of spending money on making the house look nice whilst not paying the mortgage or electricity bill.

I'd have thought other than Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV and Twente any Dutch club would be feeding Bradford City.

And who employs them and keeps them accountable?

    Rupp.

Maybe it's the CEO instead? Who appointed him into such an important position?

Ah not that same bloke that thought Edin knew football surely...

When the 100000000000000th different backroom team have fluffed the budget (entirely provided by fans ST + commercial deals reliant on the size of the fanbase) then hang on maybe there's a problem further up the chain
