Most of the Academy costs are covered by the PL, through EPPP grants

 

Sparks said that with the success we've had, we've increased the number of coaches and increased the recruitment into the Academy. Presumably, the club will pay for that.

 

Lets just get further up the leagues before we start to worry about putting more money into an academy that has produced us one decent first team player in ten years.

 

I think it's the transfer fees and sell on clauses that are the big win, when we sell to the PL/Top end of Championship.

I think the club would argue it's produced a lot of players who have been sold despite us never seeing them play in a City shirt. I'm sure they've told us that the academy makes a profit based on those sales.

 

Yes I agree with that. @Dennis and others have worked out what the playing budget is from what Sparks has said. What they have done this season doesn’t make sense, we should have been going all out for quality first and foremost not numbers. We haven’t done that and now we are in all kinds of mess. If they didn’t trust MH to spend the money wisely, they should have sacked him after the Carlisle game. Overall income has increased, and why wouldn’t we increase the playing budget? I think you are throwing bouquets at Rupp and Sparks in the knowledge that they have some kind of formula for allocating funds.

I don’t get the reasoning that the club who has just missed out on promotion wouldn’t be going all out on pushing for promotion again; reducing spending on the playing budget is complete and utter crackers.

Swings and roundabouts. We will also be paying for the services of the loan players we have brought in and given how poor they have been on the whole, I would rather have our own players in the squad than them.

Unless I’m mistaken, what Ashton was getting at is this: if we had an experienced football person either as owner or as a DoF, they would not have allowed Hughes to throw the baby out with the bath water, nor Sparks to sign off on the legions of has-beens and never-will-be’s that we signed over the summer (despite promising a leaner, meaner, quality-over-quantity squad this year). They’d have said, “we just need to make some improvements on the squad that got to the playoffs and we’ll have a squad to challenge for the automatics. We need quality replacements for Critchlow and Banks, genuine striker competition/cover for Cook, a decent creative midfielder and a left sided attacker, not a posse of centre backs, untried wingbacks and so on”.

Instead of which we’ve ended up with an even more bloated squad than last year, far too many of which are clearly not good enough. I would be very surprised if several of the new managerial candidates, having looked at the inadequate, unbalanced squad and been told there’s no significant money in January to improve it, haven’t said, “Thanks, but no thanks”.

He manufactured his own demise and dismissed as a result, purely by the style of play used , without having players to apply the style. That’s where it went wrong for me. Not the owner nor CeO.. They paid him to spend the playing budget to obtain a desired outcome. He failed on that brief , culminating at Carlisle , imho.

 

With regard any potential new owner the most thought provoking post on this thread was from @wetherbywhaler. On top of any sale price they have to show what was it £4.5 million operating money.

We know of one potential buyer who if you believe them their offer was accepted which shows that Rupp is willing to sell. There will be interest from people who haven’t got the funds either to buy the club bearing mind the operational funds required or to take the club forward. Until that changes nothing will happen

 

Using that logic no club will be bought or sold at the moment
