Indeed General, and when we played Salford away our fans nearly had him in tears and Ryan East outplayed him over the 90 minutes but personally I would rather he had stayed.
The problem I have is with "fans" who trash a player before he has kicked a ball in claret and amber. Had social media been about back in the day the signing of Sir Bob would have been trashed "by all and sundry". Fans saying what a bad egg and pisshead he was.

This is what worries me and why I said yesterday this signing doesn't fill me with confidence. What we have here is a player City see as a winger, wingback or fullback, but the player sees himself as a number 10, so for me, it feels like the sort of signing we used to make, a square peg for a round hole type of signing. I hope I'm wrong and Clarke has a blinder of a season in whatever position he's asked to play, but right now, I'm not convinced that will happen.

I’m too but if he has pace then that could be a bonus.

On a positive it’s our first signing and I expect better to come through the doors over the next few months.

Its a position where we have lacked pace and was possibly our undoing at the end of the season as after chapman got injured we literally offered nothing there, he is a rookie but on L2 budgets you are going to have to put a few rookies in the squad and polish a few rough diamonds, some do better than others, its a decent signing with ‘potential’ in my opinion, we were too old and slow when it mattered most last season.

He could really excel in the right environment and with the right management and support.

We definitely don't need to replicate that partnership. It was negative and dull beyond belief!

A friend of mine who is a Barnsley fan summarised him thus .... pace to burn; very good close ball control; enjoys his trickery; would prefer to beat the opponent twice rather than be content to beat him once. Despite his skills, he rarely had a shot on goal and isn't known for his assists.

I questioned my friend saying he prefers the No 10 position to which my friend responded 'Only in his dreams'! <expletives removed>. That of course is only one person's opinion. We'll just have to wait to see him on the pitch and make up our own minds.

I hope they've watched him longer than they watched Bola, Costelloe, Nevers, Oliver, Young and Odusina? I wonder who they compared them to?

Another fan comment from Hartlepool, I know it may not fit the script of him being terrible because people haven’t heard of him but it’s good to get as many opinions as possible. To me this guy isn’t a defender the more I hear about him and it’s probably a reason why his career has gone backwards.

Aye. Im not convinced we are even in for a new centre forward like Sharp etc - or that its a priority anyway. Agyie and Wright would be a nice forward options. With Oliver and Derbyshire as back ups to Cook.

Won't be the last time you see them either I reckon. Sounds like we want guys who can play a few positions for a few systems.

Without wanting to sound negative, what an utterly underwhelming and - frankly - shit signing

And as for a 3 year deal….wow. This hierarchy really doesn’t seem to have learned any lessons from the past few seasons

I've never like the utility tag, hopefully Hughes has a specific spot earmarked for him. Has played a fair few games in the championship so can't be no mug

Asked my Barnsley supporting mate if he was any good.

    His response was "who?"

It's a bit of a strange comment, considering that we all got caught out by Wright - who'd been underwhelming in more than one spell at this level. I don't see any issues. We want someone we can bring on either at LB, LWB or LM during matches to alter the flow of a match, something I think Hughes has been weak on - but probably because he had no-one he could trust.

Would it? I'm not sure it's as simple as you make out and I don't think you've thought it through.

For instance, if Watt comes in and takes all the set pieces like he did at Salford we have to remove the goals Smallwood, Clayton and Banks all played a part in through their set pieces.

That's 3 points at Donny, 3 points at Northampton, 2 points at home to Colchester.......... Shall I go on?
