I do think though, we have a worrying number of fellow posters - who have an inflated idea of what players we can realistically attract to L2.

Let's remember, yet again - none of the teams that went up, even including Orient, played scintillating footie.

If Hughes is simply going to add a few streetwise professionals, then frankly I'm delighted.

One of the things we lacked last season was the odd player who could take someone on and beat a man.

You simply have to have a couple, even if you're a short passing side.

Stylistically, the lad could suit us.

You would be happy if Santa signed for us.

If Santa could cut in from the wing and deliver a cross for Cookie to score so would you!

Would it? I'm not sure it's as simple as you make out and I don't think you've thought it through.

For instance, if Watt comes in and takes all the set pieces like he did at Salford we have to remove the goals Smallwood, Clayton and Banks all played a part in through their set pieces.

That's 3 points at Donny, 3 points at Northampton, 2 points at home to Colchester.......... Shall I go on?

Happy with this. It's not a marquee signing by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a young prospect, who looks to play exciting football, and has presumably been signed on lowish wages. Hopefully Hughes and team can develop them.

    Roque Santa Cruz?

You know, it's a left back/left midfielder, looks fine to me.

Am I supposed to be upset about the signing? As long as he's better than Foulds and Ridehalgh, he's an upgrade.

Perhaps we offer a year longer but on lower terms than other clubs offer.

Indeed General, and when we played Salford away our fans nearly had him in tears and Ryan East outplayed him over the 90 minutes but personally I would rather he had stayed.
The problem I have is with "fans" who trash a player before he has kicked a ball in claret and amber. Had social media been about back in the day the signing of Sir Bob would have been trashed "by all and sundry". Fans saying what a bad egg and pisshead he was.

We can hope Park. Doesn't look good being kicked out at Hartlepool but a few years ago, we took on a lad of a similar age and inferior record who had been kicked out of Carlisle who were then very low down in the division. He had achieved nothing but was a bit quick. Our manager who came in recognised how to get the best out of him.

A signing with good indication that we are looking to answer the big issues we had from much last season:
    * lack of pace
    * lack of width (Wright and Banks aside)
    * a potential change in formation

Given virtually all of us know little to nothing about Clarke but on paper he comes part of solving some of the above, like to think we can all welcome him to the club and hope he has an impact somewhere even close to the two mentioned above.

Im underwhelmed by this one but with the right coaching he could be an asset. A long way to go until the recruitment is complete.

Interesting he seems good friends with Daniel Agyei. May have the same agent.

Reading the T & A this morning and the Barnsley reporters take on the lad, it might be some time before we see the best of him. The lad sees himself as a “10” so playing him at left back won’t necessarily bring out the best in him. The reporter also said he’d like to see his stats after a run of games when he’s settled in a position, but will / can Hughes give him that time? We can’t afford another slow start next season where we end up playing catch up all season. We have to hit the ground running and put down a marker. For that reason I can’t see him being a starter initially. Knowing the City home fans, if he frustrates and fails to deliver he’s going to be under immense pressure from the off. We loved Pierera in the first season (and this lad seems to have a similar skill set), but the second season he was a shadow of himself. Let’s hope Hughes can polish this rough diamond and use him, rather than throw him in the drawer never to be seen again after a couple of underwhelming performances.
