Trust him? We don't even know what position he's playing yet, 'can play a number of roles'. Be nice if we were signing players because they were our first choice for a position rather than the obligatory can fill in anywhere. I had enough of that shite with Bowyer.

 

A utility player who can cover both right back and central midfield, I imagine McCall doesn't see him as first choice in either position. If our squad size is going to be limited then a utility player will come in handy. If we sign Elliot Watt I suspect we'll see another first choice central midfielder sign and a specialist right back, Levi can then cover either position if there is an injury.

I hate utility players.

 

Problem is he most likely won't be a squad player. Budget is tight so the youngsters will fill the roles of Taylor/Devine/Anderson etc. I'd be surprised if Sutton wasn't a regular.

 

I don't think he'll be first XI by any means - I also don't think Billy Clarke will be - but you're right that with the squad depth being limited, there is greater chance of game time for players that otherwise might have had limited minutes.

No he was always a midfielder.
He was pressed into the Full back position for his debut & subsequent dozen or so games in the infancy of his career.

 

Seem to remember Martin Peters was a "utility player"

 

Its to be hoped Stuart likes him after all he's only the manager.

 

And a guy at Leeds called Paul Madeley, Don Revie knew no matter where he played Madeley he would not look like a square peg in a round hole.

 

With a salary cap in place players who can play in several positions will be very useful just as McCardle and Vincelot were.

 

The other one that stands out (though not the same quality as Peters or Madeley) was Clayton Blackmore
Blackmore holds a top tier record that will never be beaten BTW

Vaughan and Donaldson are easily good enough for League Two. Novak as well.

People thought Vaughan would score 20+ goals when he first arrived.

I can't think of many consistently better than him at our level.
