In hindsight, was Wyke ever worth more than the release clause ? Ok he's scored 30 goals in 70 matches for us, but that's more to do with him being our focal point upfront and no bugger else chipping in with more than 5. Hanson (playing alongside Wells) regularly scored 10-12 a season to add to Well's 20. Sometimes the goals that the second striker scores are more important than the goals the "only" striker scores.

Hanson's presence created goals for others. Wyke's doesn't.

 

why has wyke got a fair few assists this season then?

 

To be fair without getting into the Hanson debate again Charlie has never carried that presence, he gets bullied far to often IMO, and unfortunately he does not have the pace to change his game.

 

Maybe were playing him in the wrong position he might be more comfortable in an attacking midfield role, Dack score 18 goals and Oztumer has scored 14 goals .

 

When is an assist not an assist eh ? Stats for assists mean diddly, other than them making McMahon look like Roberto Carlos. Hanson my not have been anywhere in the "assists" stats but his general presence did more to "assist" the creation of goals than a set of figures showing McMahon's corners have led to ten goals. If it weren't for Hanson's presence in the box those assists would in all probability led to nothing.

Stats don't show him providing many assists for Wells but the space he created allowed Wells the opportunity to close down one defender rather than two and score more.

Assists stats are about as worthwhile as the transcripts from the South African Truth & Reconciliation committee are.

 

Been to all home games and most away.

For most of them McCartan might of well been sat next to @Park bantam in Plymouth feeding him marshmallows in his City suit.

Without serious investment that'll be him ruled out then.

Surely it's to his credit that's he's scored so many when no-one else looks capable of scoring???
And surely the likelihood is he'd score even more with a decent strike partner alongside him (not to mention some decent crosses coming in too).

 

If only I knew Jonie Mitchell was on here, looking at life from both sides now.........................

Yep, I'd much prefer a striker to not get bullied than score goals. That's where the real forwards earn their money. Who cares if he's only scored 1 goal in his last 30 or 40 games.

Charlie can be replaced. A mannequin should do the same job, but probably a bit quicker and technically better.
