You could give Alistair Campbell a run for his money in the positive spinning stakes. We really didn’t deserve a draw at Rochdale. Ask another poster on here how pissed off i was at half time, i had to sit through that rubbish. If their keeper doesn’t drop a massive bollock we come away with nothing and yet another woeful away performance. I away goal in 7 hours of footbball before Lillis feels sorry for us and gifts us a goal.

Agreed and at the start of the 2014/15 season, we'd have laughed at the thought of the then dropped Meredith ever playing for a play-off chasing Championship team

I think the point some are making is that we need to be a bit more intelligent and patient about our attitude to recruitement

My take on it is, that we've been used to the 2008 - 2016 period been one of where we bought players to do a job for that season or maybe the season after, with virtually no plan for buying a good youngster and selling them on. Let's be honest when we did this successfully, with Wells, the guy who bought him was shown the door when PP arrived!!

Well you certainly don't like the current policy, which has been used by Burnley, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Brentford and others to name a few

Hence, the length of time it's taken for these clubs to make progress

I ask again and I'm genuinely interested. As you're unhappy with the current one, what's your transfer policy

I have to agree with ALL this not sure @Park bantam@Park bantam would give Alister Campbell a run for his money, maybe in Park bantams case more a Eric Pickles ;), but after witnessing the Rochdale debacle how anyone in their right mind can suggest we deserved a point is truly laughable, as well as the goal celebration embarrassing to say the least.

I'm suggesting we find a middle ground between the current "policy" of signing any unwanted kid from elsewhere that's happy to sign for 25p a week and spending a fortune.

believe it or not. it is possible.

also. our policy is not very much like those clubs you mentioned. we spend far less on absolute dross. it's not the same really. all those clubs are willing to spend bigger on better players.

Do you have a formula for sifting the "dross" from the "decent"? i.e. you knew for a fact that McCartan would turn out to be a disappointment and Gregory would be a success - because it's that easy isn't it?

If you do - get yourself interviews with any of the Top 6 in the Premiership as they'll snap your hands off

McCartan was 'fancied' by several clubs, but I assume he was obviously dross because he came for a low wage -maybe he wanted to play at a higher level and wasn't bothered about pay

Where does Wyke fit into this? Was he a dross signing as well?

If it's worked with one, not worked with another and the jury's out on one more (Reeves) is that a transfer policy as disastrous as you make out? Hasn't Robinson shown something as well? Yes. Poleon is rubbish - but he was always a reserve anyway - we bought Taylor as a replacement for Clarke

It's you're 'the whole thing is rotten' approach, that gets questioned. And then you come out with sarcastic comments about anyone who dares to think positive

And what's this bloody magic 'middle ground'? People always make this statement, when they have 20/20 hindsight vision. Educate me. Clearly I'm totally wrong

Wyke is a poor example - we only got him because of his release clause, which was below what Carlisle would have wanted without that clause, and we wouldn't have got near that value.

spending transfer fee's on the likes of Poleon and Reeves is everything thats wrong with the current policy - we could have diverted the money we used on fee's for them two shitters, and McCartan thats spent all season on our bench and could have paid higher wages for better quality free agents.

what we did in the summer is weaken the team tremendously, went forward with a lower budget, and it was justified by saying "well at least we're paying transfer fees now!" forgetting that we could have done better in the free transfer market, and that anything we paid out was less than we brought in on fee's for the likes of Hanson, Clarke and the figures we received from the Wells and Wisdom deals.

Aye ........ It took Social media to do all that. (Phnaw, phnaw, chuckle, etc..... )
Most of us - In our daily lives just need our monthly pay cheques to be in threat, before we 'give in'.
These basas went through all of Jan and February to smell the coffee. OH - to have a charmed life. :(
Get the feck out of OUR Club, I say.
Abroad ...... If the working man ain't working, he sure as shit don't get paid !! DAILY !!

If it wasn't for Wykes 16 goals, we'd be already down this season.

Of course they are, they're all in The Championship

When Huddersfield were in L1, they had about three years of sorting themselves, before Hoyle took over and then had a strategy. But it was never a 'spend a load of money' one, but they were fortunate to have their very good academy -which is something we are trying to replicate. Town fans, used to moan and moan about his lack of ambition

Burnley spent seasons going from L1 to The Premiership and were never the biggest spenders

I have to agree the transfer business that was done in the summer was wrong.. I think Edin slightly (but obviously not fully) admitted that at the forum where he said going forward we will spend more on wages rather than transfer fees.

Exactly, a slight tweak could make a difference. My point is that is wasn't an unmitigated disaster

But Shrewsbury have shown that it's not about how much you spend, but what you get and how you coach etc

And not forgetting the 5 very good youngish loanees they took from PL and Championship clubs ... a policy which our Chairman has previously criticised.
