Isn’t that a perfect indictment of the clubs transfer policy that we are talking about 4/5 players having to come inJanuary just to stop us dropping out of the khazi league.Frightening.

I really hope as part of the influx we sign experienced centre half or midfielder, and appoint them our Captain with immediate effect.

It was another McCall mistake appointing a goalkeeper as skipper, time to stop being pally pally and sort it. That’s life.

Do you think the likes of Jones or McCall's performances were influenced by whether or not they wore the armband? No, because they're natural leaders who lead by example regardless of the captain title. If our players need the title and an armband to step up and lead then they're in the wrong sport. O'Donnell being captain is the least of our worries, if it even is one at all.

Problem is McCall still doesn't know in his head his best 11 due to his non existent transfer strategy.

We don’t have a best 11. We have a best 2 or 3 and the rest are just ... well ... shit.

The comment "we are ready for the Jan window" is a joke.
Do they ever remember what they have said in previous
    seasons?

I can't see Southend making a recovery, they are worse than
us if that's possible.Barrow are falling and may end up in the mix
so with luck it may be one or two might deteriorate into a worse
situation and give us a better chance of survival.I hope the club
don't think "lets hit rock bottom" and then the only way is up
as rock bottom may be a swamp and we'll disappear!

The scary thing is all the problems and players needed have been obvious from before a ball was kicked, while SMc talks like the problems have just turned up.

How do you know the decision wasn’t made already re Stuart? Rhodes is my bet along with the Sparks promotion.

in Rhodes mind that gives us ‘continuity’

Rhodes has always been a walking disaster for this club, his list of mistakes is a long one.

Spot on. So many on here are living in the pre ‘spending cap’ past! @Bantamsteve@Bantamsteve was absolutely correct, we had the opportunity to sign players prior to its introduction, but for whatever reasons (and I have my suspicions) elected not to. It may well equal out over time, but we are by and large stuck with our current squad, until at least the end of this season and ultimately will have no financial benefits over other clubs until the EFL changes its rules.

If the club have say £400k left on the 20/21 cap with only six months of the season left, it should allow them to sign some decent players.

Somebody on here did the analysis which suggested we were 3 or maybe 4 over-21 players under the salary cap limit. If that's true, it might be all we need. If not and some over-21 players are encouraged to leave the club, their departure would then create more headroom in the cap limit.

It all depends how serious the club is about getting out of the relegationn dog fight and spending money as an insurance policy to protect our league status ... and Rupp's original investment.

They won’t “compliment” the squad. They will hobble straight in to the starting 11.

Ismail the better player of the three, but as he only plays the occasional 15 minutes when all the stars align in a very specific way you cannot rely on him at all. Would happily boot both out and have morais in because at least he will play matches and can cross a ball

Because i believe an outfield player needs to be giving orders and should have a clearer picture of whats happening on the field.

I have no problem with Clarke, Donaldson, Evans or Watt being captain.

I wouldn’t be pinning any hopes on anything drastic happening in January. Firstly we are a bottom end league 2 club. We will bottom of the pile when it comes to being attractive to any player considering to move. We made a meal of the Samuels loan and he hasn’t been very good. If we are looking at loans then id expect them to be of the same quality.

With the Covid situation clubs aren’t going to want to let many players go. Long old season and lots of injuries – players having to isolate etc. The players that are going to be available are going to be the ones who cant get into a match day squad and their respective clubs. Im sure players will come in. They have to as our squad is very very thin but I don’t think for a minute that the quality available will be anywhere near good enough to drag us out of the current mess. It might just mean we have a couple more options for the bench.

If anything id be more concerned about players leaving. Wood being our only half decent player has a good chance of clubs look at him in January. It will depend on if anyone is willing to put their hand in their pocket or hope they can be the first in the queue when his contract expires.

I feel we will bring 2 or 3 in, with a decent pedigree player for our level. I feel the club have to make a statement of sorts on the transfer window and Sparks has already made the foolish statement, that we are prepared for January.

I feel we still will stay up, just. Southend are doomed. I'm still confident that we are better than 1 other team but boy, I'm getting nervous.
