Can we get out of this mess in January ....

With Staunton out we could ideally do with another CB but the whole spine looks weak. Instead of bringing in a replacement for RS i think we should switch to 4-4-2 and bin off BRE, but we then need a LW and RW to make that happen. Plus we need at least one more striker to go with Novak.

 

Anyone know if Novak is anywhere near a return?

 

Worryingly, I don't actually think we can. The base of the squad is too poor and I don't see what signs anybody has seen in the recruitment process that gives any hope.

The talk of a 35 year old Morais coming in shows the depth of our desperation and also the limitations of Stuart's contact list and scouting network.

It feels weird but I'm already getting into the habit of checking the results of the teams below us almost before I look at ours. I'm just hoping they're as badly organised and prepared as us but I'm not sure its possible. They're also more likely to be ruthless and try to get different people to turn it around if necessary.

That Samuels/ Guthrie partnership has just given me nightmares not even Sunday morning pub standard

 

Its two years ago all over again. It also felt like this just before lockdown in March, the Salford game being a new low. belive me, despite the usual fluffers on here, it was only due to our good start that we weren't in the bottom 6 last season. Three years of absolute dross and yet not one thing has changed. Still bumbling along with the same flawed strategy and infrastructure, blindly hoping that the players on the pitch can muster a good performance despite poor coaching, non existent scouting, a lack of ambition to turn it around and an acceptance of mediocrity by some.

 

And yet there have been posters on here beating the drum that O'Connor can play midfield. He can't. Unless new recruits are brought in immediately that is a relegation squad.

 

McCall doesn’t fill me with confidence as we seem to be in a tail spin now jumping from crisis week to week, he simply has to sign three/four GOOD players who are comfortable in L2.

A decent commanding centre half, a pacey midfielder, a brick sht house midfielder, and that elusive striker. If this is about building it needs to start now.

Time for action not empty promises.

 

Agree. I think our best XI is just about good enough to scrape survival but we know injuries are cropping up due to the tight schedule and our back ups arent good enough.

We either need trialists or to put more faith in the likes of Sikora, Scales, Finn Cousin Dawson etc before Jan and pray they take to it like Staunton.

 

Not in full agreement about Morais but it's a start I suppose
Problem with that is the lack of bodies and the quality of bodies in the box
Guthrie Donaldson and Jig Saw need at last 10 chances each to convert one

 

I know it’s not about individuals and harsh to single them out but we have possibly the worst winger in the league in dmh and worse leading/main goalscorer in Donaldson, and a generally just a poor defence. If we are carrying players we will nearly always lose games , no matter who he signs if we keep on chopping and changing and being forced to pick the deadwood we will end up on the losing side and most likely relegated or just finishing over the line.

I hope they are ready to dig deep into the coffers.

 

I agree.I also think we will just stay up but to expect 4/5 of the young players to all come good in the pressure of a relegation battle is a big ask.This is solely on Stuart’s head as his previous reluctance to go for out of contract players has forced his hand with the younger players.Should be using them sparingly to get them used to “big boys football” not as the mainstays of a bottom of league 2 team.

Problem is McCall still doesn't know in his head his best 11 due to his non existent transfer strategy.
