Looking at the EFL site, under the cap rules it says there are 22 players allowed to be registered. Anyone under the age of 21 on July 1st wont have to be registered. Think that leaves us with 19 registered players, so 3 guys over 21. For next season (if we survive), the registration rules only allow 20 players to be registered but still will registered anyone signed before July 30th 2020 to count as £1,000 against the cap.

    Our over 21's: O'Donnell (32), Hosannah (21 - before July), Longridge (25), Paudie (23), BRE (29), A O'Connor (28), Pritchard (28), Cooke (23), Novak (32), Donaldson (36), Ismail (26), Hornby (25), French (21 - before July), Clarke (32), Evans (32), Sutton (23), Wood (24), Guthrie (27), DMH (23) currently make up our registered players.

Trying to find it but from an old WOAP article or maybe even a T&A article after the window shut, I'm sure they said it's around 350-400K left in the budget. Worth remembering that transfer fees, agent fees and signing on fees aren't included in the cap but bonuses are. Either way, this squad needs probably 4 or 5 quality players to drag us out the dirt, so either we luck out with a youth loanee who is actually good, or we need to lose a handful of these players but i cant see many taking a punt on our trash.

Saw someone mentioned David Wheater a few posts back as he is lumbering around the Oldham reserves. Kind of dug himself a hole he hasn't been able to get out of. Oldham put out a statement a few weeks backs about him, doesn't sound like he will play for them any time soon.

He had a stop start pre season after testing positive for Covid. When he came back, he skipped training a few times, then called in to say he's injured his back "whilst lifting his dog" and didn't come to training for a few weeks. The next contact he had was to tell the club he's moved house without consulting them at all about leaving Manchester, but his house move goes against the 'Whereabouts and Anti-Doping regulations' which all clubs have. He moved back to the Durham according to their fans, which breaks Oldhams contract for the Whereabouts and Anti-Doping regulations section on his deal which says a round trip of over 200 miles which is not considered suitable by the club for a full-time professional.

Worth a 6 month deal. Cant be any worse than playing BRE ever again, even if he does have to sit on the A1 for a bit longer than we'd like.

He might hurt his back putting the dog in the car :brig:.
Joking aside we can't have players skipping training and not abiding by club rules, much as i think he is exactly the sort of player we need (if he is as good as he was last time I saw him)

    Fair point.
In respect of Donaldson then he had an option for an extension, so not sure if that would be a fresh salary contract.
Richard O’Donnell had a break in contract and is therefore a fresh signing. Same with BillyClarke and Gareth Evans, who moved to the club.
Lee Novak, is the only other I budgeted at a higher rate.
I suggested that the average wage given the number of players we have, would be around £53,000 per player, based on a squad of 28, but budgeted at a neat £1,000 a week for the none high earner ‘senior players’.
I still think we will have a small sum to play with.
Not sure where @Jordan@Jordan got the £350-400 figure?
Rather than play about with some of the sometimes ludicrous salaries suggested, I based the under 22’s salary on the average for 18-21 year old males paid for a 36 hour week. https://www.statista.com/statistics/802183/annual-pay-employees-in-the-uk/
Once again people have got to separate a salary out from the bonus system, which EFL say is in the wage cap.

The tough decisions are where an experienced person with a good HR / sports contract law solicitor, with the right legal advice and a big enough cheque almost any problem can go away.

Trying to find the article, but i believe it was also mentioned on a recent(ish) WOAP podcast that we had about 400K left in the budget.

I did find a T&A piece from July 11th saying we had used half the cap space on 14 players. Then we had O'Donnell & DMH re-signing deals, along with Levi Sutton, Billy Clarke, Elliott Watt & Callum Cooke signing. Those were pre cap date deadline (July 30th) so will only count as £1,000 per week each but there isn't a chance in hell DMH is pulling that much in. After the deadline we brought in 3 more in Gareth Evans and two loans of Samuels and Hossanah. But since then we released Vaughan, so that will have given us a big boost. So to add to that 13 now Vaughan has gone, we have ROD, DMH, Sutton, Clarke, Cooke, Evans & Hossanah.

So if we were as the T&A say at £750K (ish) on July 11th then add O'Donnell, DMH, Sutton, Clarke & Cooke to that (no need to add Watt, he's only 20 so doesn't count towards cap), they all count as £1k a week so for sake of rounding that's £250K covering those 5 registered. Taking us to £1Mil or near enough. From there we signed Evans after the deadline so he counts as full whack plus whatever we cover for Hossanah and Samuels loans. Samuels doesn't count too due to age but Hossanah will.

From Googling Leeds published salaries, there isn't many published but a lot of the younger lads are, apparently Hossanah earned £840pw last season on a few sites. Even if we are paying full for that, it's £43,000ish. So depending on what Evans is being paid, you're only adding two salaries on top of that £1mil cap we were at.

Plus, since that cap date we released Vaughan, due to him being here before July he would have only counted as £1,000pw so that will cover Hossanah's yearly wage if we are paying 100% of his deal. So it's £1million ish plus whatever we pay Evans that should have been used. Even if he is pulling in the average L2 wage allowed of £1,500 per week, thats £75k to add to the Million used. if he's on £2K a week, you're still looking at us using around the £1.1million mark of the £1.5M salary cap.

They won’t “compliment” the squad. They will hobble straight in to the starting 11.

If we had 14 players prior to the salary cap and the sum of a £1,000 per week, per player is taken into account, then the figure could be £728,000.
However we have a compliment of 28 players now.
As far as I understand it the age of a player is immaterial in respect of the salary cap, but relevant in respect the number of senior players a club is allowed to have.

I really hope as part of the influx we sign experienced centre half or midfielder, and appoint them our Captain with immediate effect.

It was another McCall mistake appointing a goalkeeper as skipper, time to stop being pally pally and sort it. That’s life.

I can sort of see why he did it, with ROD and AOC being our senior pros, and AOC having history. At the moment, seeing as how he is playing every match, I think Donaldson should be in with a shout as captain. I'll await the flack!

Seems that way. To be honest, the EFL site is a nightmare in terms of explaining itself, but it appears as long as they were under 21 before July, their salary wont count towards the cap. But for this season we can only register 22 players over the age of 21 but that drops to only 20 registered players over 21 years old for the 21/22 season.

I know in past season there used to be a rule regarding players registered who were trained at your own club but it appears they have dropped that rule for the "capped seasons". You just need one from your academy in your matchday 18.

Already talk of 2 loan signings in January, they’ll be dross and we’ll play more crappy football.

    I don’t think we’ll get relegated but I won’t be surprised.

I have zero faith in McCall signing anyone decent in the transfer window.

Dare I say it even Clarke or Evans if we’re scraping the barrel.

Need that Andrew Davies/Gary Jones enforcer type in the building ASAP who can direct and affect play and commands total respect.

He should have signed an outfield player worthy of the tag in the summer.

Never got this fascination with who the captain is. Real leaders don't need an armband to influence how they lead and behave on the pitch. Giving a piece of cloth to an outfield player isn't suddenly going to make them start shouting at people any more/less than they do now.
