All countries offer incentives to attract multi national companies to invest. That includes the UK and the EU who have both always offered money etc to attract them. The more interesting point is that despite bigger offers from EU countries most have chosen the UK despite Brexit.

Notice all the Remainers are a bit quiet since the EU has been exposed as a corrupt sham from the inside, led by one of the Vice Presidents!

Nobody in the right mind can genuinely say they would want to be part of the EU after the current Qatar scandal.

Yeah change the subject because your beloved EU has been exposed as a corrupt mess.

Can I ask - would you still like to rejoin the EU?

That's a difficult one, because we'd never be accepted back on the incredibly favourable terms we had before.

If we could go back in with our own currency and with the contributions rebate we had before then it's an economic no brainer. I'd rejoin tomorrow. It's beyond doubt that leaving the EU has been economically detrimental to us and that detriment will get worse as the years go on. The idea of making trade with your nearest neighbours - the biggest economic bloc on the planet - more difficult and more expensive was always an exercise in economic lunacy. The fabulous worldwide trade deals that were supposed to replace our free unimpeded trade with the EU have - surprise, surprise - either not happened or have turned out to be worse deals than we had as part of the EU. This was all entirely predictable and widely predicted, but was dismissed as 'project fear' when it was actually 'project stating the bleeding obvious'.

But we all know that economics were one of the biggest reasons why people voted Remain whereas most Brexiteers voted to leave for non economic reasons - immigration and 'sovereignty' being the main ones. That split is still a very big one. Diehard Brexit supporters will go to their graves denying that Brexit has harmed the economy (even if they know it's true) because it's not the reason they wanted to leave and they believe the other 'benefits' (as they perceive them) to be worth it.

A majority of the population now thinks Brexit was a mistake, and that majority will keep on growing. But there is still strong support for it in the 'red wall' constituencies, so neither main party is going to make any moves towards a closer relationship for fear of losing/not regaining those constituencies at the next election.

Eventually it will become so obvious that we have economically damaged ourselves that public opinion will support some kind of closer union again. But it's unlikely that will amount to full re-entry because that would require giving up the pound, joining the ERM, accepting free movement etc etc, plus higher contributions with no rebate.

Weird isn't it. We have a load of posters on here who are laser focused on the behaviour of our elected leaders when it suits but really bloody quiet on other occasions.

Imagine if Dominic Raab had been insinuated as being bribed by Quatari officials....not quite sure the silence would have been the same.

To be fair though at least thet didn't do anything really bad like eating cake.

Yeah cos at least the EU uncovered the mess and have dealt with it by removing the MEPs responsible.

Whereas in the UK the tory govt is the most corrupt in modern if not our entire political history. Michelle Mone, PPE, law breaking in number 10, lying to the Queen, proroguing parliament, a PM not voted for by any member of the public, Owen Paterson the list goes on.

Lots of us stated that the EU requires a degree of reform. That isnt to say we would throw the baby out with the bathwater. Economically, brexit has been a shit show.

I bet you and your rabid right wing buddy came in your pants when you saw this story. Because thats all you have to grasp onto. Regardless of the fact you ignore the mass corruption thats taken place by the party you vote for. You show the quality of your character when you deplore the EU in the same post whilst making light of the corruption in the UK.

Not at all. Politically corruption doesn't really please me and not really sure what I ignore?

My point was really about the lack of acknowledgement of this relatively serious corruption from the very same people who freak out if a UK politician sings happy birthday.

It is maybe not a shock if it transpires that Qatar has been offering financial incentives, or bribes. It would be shocking if somebody in a position of influence accepted such bribes. The person accepting the bribes would be in the wrong.

If a bank employee is caught stealing from the till or accepting back-handers, that person is in the wrong but it does not mean that the bank is corrupt. That person should be exposed and sanctioned. The bank will no doubt act swiftly to deal with that individual.

That this Greek MEP and her assistant have been so quickly identified and suspended actually reveals that the European Institutions take this matter very seriously, proving that they are NOT corrupt. It is an irrational exaggeration to brand all European institutions as corrupt due to the supposed actions of 3 or 4 individuals abusing the system, but a predictable reaction trying to make a cheap point.

I am probably the only person on here who has worked for the European institutions. A colleague in agriculture was found to be leaking advance information for profit about intervention prices to outside interested parties. He was sacked and sent to prison. He was a corrupt employee IN the Commission, not part of a corrupt organization.

As Offcomedun has said above, most people now realize that Brexit was a mistake but a very difficult one to reverse.
    The lorry has jackknifed.

Yep when we got to Spain, the old EU’s people, went straight through Passport control.

    Ha no wait for them.

I was proud to queue for nearly forty five minutes to show my British Passport in our own special entrance.

    That will show them!

So a simple straightforward questions. Do you have a passport?

Have you ever left Bradford/West Yorkshire/England/United Kingdom?

If you have left the United Kingdom have you done so before/after Brexit.

Do you find travel outside the United Kingdom easier/more difficult since Brexit?

Where can you get 22+ Centigrade in the United Kingdom in January/February?

A total fluke (although with Global Warming the future….are you allowed to have that thought after Brexit?) Just been enjoying those temperatures on a consistent basis in the EU is great!
