Farmers need workers. Musician cannot get visa to work abroad. There's a solution in there somewhere

Steve the whole point of your post is UK musicians are finding it hard to play in the EU, because the EU are implementing rules they said they would discuss with regards easing, "Both the UK Government and the EU have said that they offered proposals to maintain visa-free arrangements for musicians, but that they could not reach an agreement" .yet the UK are not putting the same restrictions on EU musician or musicians from any other country, its really as simple as that Steve no matter how you wrap it up, the UK are not putting the same restrictions on EU musicians because its not necessary.

I'm not sure even with Labour in power the present situation would be any different, our politicians from both sides seemed to be happy with regards where we get out gas & electricity from, and we have to rely on the likes of the French and up to a point Russia with regards oil thank goodness were not as reliant on Russia as some EU countries.
Just to add any talk of taking back certain industries was taboo for many years most people believing (up to a point) there was no alternatives to Maggie's market forces crap, unfortunately we are finding out the hard way no matter how it looks the present energy companies are a cartel more so now the small fish have gone to the wall the (big 6 is it) can do as they want, the profits they are making are obscene and can't be justified.

So with regards the farm workers it is about our present government not producing visa's, I'd say in the present situation agriculture/farming trumps hospitality sorry if that sounds flippant.

So maybe its not all about EU workers after all.

It may or may not be necessary for the UK, but that's entirely beside the point. The EU made it crystal clear before the referendum that, if we voted to leave, we would be treated exactly the same as every other non-EU country around the world. As they said, 'there have to be consequences for leaving'. You cannot leave a club and then expect to get all the benefits of club membership without paying your subs.
We knew all of this. We knew exactly what the EU would do (because they do it to every other country in the world) and they are doing exactly what they told us would happen if we chose to leave.

It's totally ridiculous to blame the EU for a) doing what they said they'd do and b) treating us exactly the same as they treat every other non-EU country. We knew what the consequences of leaving would be, because they told us in no uncertain terms. So we have brought all this upon ourselves.

Nope. Agriculture is a paltry 0.51% of the UK economy. Just like fishing, it gets lots of the headlines but is largely insignificant in economic terms.
Hospitality is ten times bigger. It's the third largest private sector employer, employs 10% of UK employees and is 5% of GDP. Its importance to our economy utterly dwarfs that of agriculture.
It's a massive problem that we can no longer attract seasonal EU workers into bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants etc.

The other major problem is in the care sector. Care homes are closing or downsizing because they can't get staff from Europe any more.

This is all excellent news. But what does it have to do with Brexit? There was nothing stopping any of this happening before we left the EU.

BTW, I've recently bought a superb Dualit toaster - 100% British made. I'm about to buy an Ebac Washing machine, also 100% British made. I'm very keen to do my bit to support our manufacturers wherever I can.

So get on with the situation, I doubt musicians were high on the agenda with regards reasons why we should " stay or we should go" at the time the country had the referendum vote.
You keep telling us not to blame the EU yet as I posted both parties were said to be getting together and discuss the situation going forward, unfortunatly they couldn't come to an agreement so the EU grouped us with every other non EU country which as I say is they right and we go back to status quo, I'm sure UK musicians are going to have a massive impact on the EU economy, and to be honest there is very little popular music from the likes of France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Albania, Romania and the likes, (unless its the Eurovision Song contest :joy:) maybe the EU don't like the situation British music is very popular in EU countries hence why British musicians go there.

The Eurovision song contest could have been awarded to many EU countries but they chose the UK like many investors do because we are a safe country with the rule of law to protect them,

Its the only thing we have won Eurovison wise but I can get through life without the Eurovision Song Contest.
It was always a case of you scratch my back and I scratch yours with regards many European countries especially the big hitters like Albainia, Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia, Estonia, Slovakia the musical power houses of Europe.
The worrying thing is people say it's entertainment and make a night watching it, I suppose it takes all kinds a little like Bantam Talk if we all agreed it wouldn't be what it is.

Musicians at grassroots level may not be a big part of the economy, but popular music is a massive part of our cultural identity. We have created a situation that makes it really hard for many musicians to earn a living. This will impact on their career development. The top bands and musicians that earn billions for our economy all had to start at the bottom.
This government has no understanding or interest in popular culture, despite its huge importance to most of the population.
