Get a read of the comments on social media regarding the postponement lol. I know footy fans generally are thick as mince but jeez, I'm surprised some can tie their own shoelaces.

It's a good, quick video which shows the pitch was still frozen this morning especially around the TL Dallas stand and Mick confirms that the TL Dallas is the issue area as the stand blocks out the sun. He also mentions that the lack of grass on the pitch is due to the Liverpool U21 game as the grass was getting frosty which kills the grass when people walk on it.
There is also a video on Mansfield's Facebook which explains about the temperatures and how the air temperature can be misleading as the temperature on the ground is often lower and even lower under the soil so a 4 degrees air temperature won't make a big difference to thawing the pitch.bantamdave41, Bronco, Inspector and 5 others like this. -

It depends how deep the frost is, if it's in deep then it will probably need more than 24 hours of 4 or 5 degrees.
What this shows is what we all know, no matter what the club and officials do there will always be some people to moan and they can't win. If it is unplayable now and they don't think it will thaw in time then people can plan what to do tomorrow rather than sitting around waiting, staff who are due to work know what is happening and the caterers don't waste a load of food. It also means both sides can have a training session tomorrow rather than Doncaster wasting a day.Jayteebee, Captain Grumpy, Stafford Bantam and 4 others like this. -

I’m no expert on grass, but you have to wonder whether the covers do more harm than good.
They’ve apparently been on all week but failed to prevent the pitch being frozen, during that time what grass remains will have been starved of light and air. If you ever went camping you would know when you take up the ground sheet all the grass is limp and yellow and takes weeks to recover, so if the covers fail to stop the frost then we’re probably best leaving them off and letting the pitch breathe.Stop hovering to collapse... For anybody that does Facebook (i don’t but my wife does) there is a video by Mick Doyle on the city FB page this morning that shows the pitch after the covers were left off to let a bit of the warmer air on to it.
It’s quite enlightening.Onside, Idlebantam, Morley Bantam and 4 others like this. -

For anyone who doesn't use Facebook, here is the video that Mick Doyle did. But I know how society work these days, he probably filmed it some time ago and it's all a conspiracy or summat. But hey I guess all the amateur groundsmen on here and social media know better than the guy who has done the pitch for years.....JonButterfield, Bronco, Idlebantam and 4 others like this. -

I’m no club apologist but that was a definite eye opener and hopefully will stop all the idiotic T & A and FB comments about how amateurish the club is.JonButterfield, CRASS, Bronco and 2 others like this. -
