You're misquoting me now. I never said 11 giants and hey, why not just get some big strong players that can actually play a bit? They aren't mutually exclusive traits you know. The way you think things should be done got trialled this season and has made us the worst team in the country, forgive me if i think its a terrible way to go about things.

Wells if you remember was at his most effective when partnered with big jim who is 6'4 and therefore a giant, but obvs would have been way better with an identical player in size. I think the club has a monopoly on the term silly season tbh

For the record though, if you made me choose, I'll have Wells every time.

When you look at the two most successful periods in the clubs history in the last 30 years or so we had Jewell's promotion team and Parky's promotion team.

Under Jewell: little and large upfront. Small, but tenacious, ball winner alongside technically gifted passer in CM. Pace and power down Lawrence's flank and trickery and guile down Beagrie's. We had a safe keeper and defenders who could defend.

Under Parkinson we again had a well balanced team. Doyle was the Whalley. Jones was the McCall. Wells and Hanson were the little and large combo. We had two no-nonsense centre backs who could concentrate and knew how to defend and we had a good mix in that Meredith liked to bomb forward and support Reid, as Jacobs liked to do with Beagrie in Jewell's side, while Darby was more defensive minded and ensured it wasn't all out attack.

All of the players knew what their role was in both sides and when we had an injury, someone just slotted in and performed the same job. It helped that we knew who the manager was each week.

Now the German fruitloop has left the building and we've tied Bowyer down for two years I just hope we can return to some sort of stability. In these final weeks of the season, as we prepare for the inevitable, make steps to clearout as much of the deadwood as we realistically can, then start to plan a proper pre season ASAP. Form an identity, a style, rather than looking like a load of headless chickens thrown together like was the case this season. Get new signings in the club early and allow them to develop the understanding and build up their fitness, which never happened this season.

Get them ice baths and proteins bars and whatever else is needed!

 

Is Bowyer still getting a free ride because this season is a lost cause or are we a bit concerned with how utterly inept we are?
I largely think he's still the right man and think itll be better next season but its a bit concerning that we're losing literally every single week. we can't even get a draw anymore.

 

Contrary to what Bowyer has been telling us the last couple of weeks, I would imagine he already knows our fate is sealed with this squad, and he is using the remaining games to see who he thinks might be worth keeping. The vast majority, I suspect, he doesnt want. Moving them on will be the hard part of course

 

At least having our fate almost sealed so early it gives him time to.make sure we are as well prepared as possible as possible to make a good start next season

 

Totally agree Park, no repeat of the shambles they oversaw between them last summer

 

Article in T&A this morning ringing a few alarm bells for me. Suggestion seems to be that Todd's contract will not be renewed for next season if (as seems most likely), we end up in league 2. Are we going to provide Bowyer with the experienced support he needs for success, or are we going to do it on the cheap and hope for the best with Drury as his number 2?

 

I don’t think it means that it was talking about the whole backroom staff I am 100% sure Todd will be here if he accepts the contract

 

I'm sure Wells would have been good without Hanson, but you just have to watch the Burton highlights to see how awesome they were as a pair.

Unplayable on their day, and not just at that level; Premier League defences struggled with them.

I would of thought that Bowyer would not be the kind of person to look after himself. He brought Todd to the club and I would like to think he protects him and he gets a contract.

Think if we're having this issue with coaching staff then we better get use to most of the contacted players staying.

 

We have to many coaches anyway manager and assistant plus fitness coach and part time goalkeeper coach is all that is required

 

Get that but Bowyer brought in Todd and he must stay for me as that's his man.

We will all have to wait and see. No point in sweating it out just yet. Cost cutting will have to take place, that is for sure. However, I think if GB wants an assistant coach he will get one.
