Actually played by both of them. The low riff that opens the song is Clapton. The high harmony riff that comes in third time around is Duane Allman.

Possible candidate for one of the greatest:
    Money for Nothing Dire Straits.

Then, just cos I like em:
    Milk and alcohol Dr. Feelgood
    Take me out Franz Ferdinand
    Gay Bar Elecric Six.

Apologies if any don't count as riffs :grinning:

Pretty much anything done by Metallica. One and the beginning of wherever I may roam just off the top of my head.

Nothing by ZZ Top so far is a bit of a surprise.

My fave from the beardie band is La Grange

I find it hilarious that ZZ Top are known for their trademark huge beards. But the only clean shaven member is called...Frank Beard.

OK, I cracked and played it. It gets a little tedious after about three minutes, but it is phenomenally good harp playing. Will Wilde is a superb player - I've seen several of his videos before.
I'm a pretty decent harp player, though I say it myself, but that is some seriously good blowing that I couldn't come near. I still hate the song though.

That is top notch, I have seen many, many live bands (from 1969 to present day) and that stands up with anyone, I congratulate you on your ability and obvious love of music.

Just had a look through these, pretty impressive stuff. Envy anyone who can play a guitar.

I'm right handed by nature and tried learning to play the guitar a few years ago but i have a bone spur on my first finger on my left hand as a result of breaking my finger as a kid and means it impedes me playing the chords. I could switch anf try and play cack handed. Honestly i would love to learn, a lot of people i admire play the guitar, people such a James Hetfield, Simon Neil to name just two. I love listening to their skills and craft, takes me away from depression and puts me in a great place. The genuis of these and other musicians should be savoured.

This might have one of the earliest riffs ever done although I suspect there were plenty before it. Lol.

Always liked this classic rework by Dick Dale of his surf rock 1960’s hit.

TBH honest, I'm not all that keen on what he does with that song. It's probably my least favourite track from that superb Ronnie Scott's residency. I prefer my version :joy::joy::joy:

Jeff Beck is an absolute one-off. He has invented a unique technique, playing with his thumb rather than a pick and making major use of his customised, shortened whammy bar. How he does all those bends so precisely in tune is incredible.

I bought Blow by Blow on vinyl back in the day and still love it.

I think this is a much better example from that Ronnie Scott's stuff. It's both jaw-dropping and spellbinding:

Yup. There is a memorable acoustic fingerpicked opening chord sequence, but it's not a riff. Also a memorable arpeggiated chord sequence on electric 12 string , between verses but, again, I wouldn't call it a riff.
Arguably there is one riff in Stairway - the A5, G5, F5 motif behind the 'And as we wind on down the road' section. But it's certainly nowhere near being one of the 'best ever guitar riffs'.

Yes, he was a master. But where are the riffs in that? I hear lots of single note soloing but no riffs.

I saw her at her first public appearance as a 13 year old with an acoustic guitar, playing Alanis Morrisset's 'One Hand in My Pocket' at the Tuesday night jam session in The Peel, behind Bradford Uni. Sadly, now demolished.
Good guitar playing on that clip. But no riffs

Nice arpeggiated chords. Not a riff though.
