This is a link to one of the videos on my YouTube channel. Delta blues standard - Rollin' & Tumblin'.

The harp comes in at 1.18 and the solo at 2.46.

There's also harp on this video of my band, The Reverbs:

None of it is Will Wilde standard by any means but I hope you like them.

    Thanks Trevor.
I must admit, I'm very proud of that video. My musical contribution is just the harmonica and some backing vocals but I put the video together, from footage shot on mobile phones, using free video editing software called Shotcut. Our singer kicked it all off by sending his video, on the stool, in vertical format instead of horizontal. That meant I had to fill the screen with three shots, for most of it. It was a huge amount of work, resizing everything and synching it all to the audio track, but it was worth it in the end, even if it did take over my life for weeks.

I can bend and get some decent rhythms, not wanting to play massive solos just makes me smile how good some people get.
I will get there even if it's only to do a rhythmic backing to some of the bands I listen to. I will give it a bigger go when I fully retire.

Thanks Al. Anyone can learn, you know.

There's lots of other stuff on here. Guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro, harmonica etc. I'm a musical jack of all trades, but master of none, I'm afraid.

I think the first recorded version of Rollin' & Tumblin' was by a singer called Hambone Willie Newbon in about 1929. But, for me, the definitive version is the Muddy Waters recording from the early '50s. That's certainly the one that inspired my rendition.

Could go on forever on this...

Crazy Train is a great riff. I would go with Kashmir or Whole Lotta Love from Jimmy Page.

For Tony Iommi I would go with Children of the Grave or Symptom of the Universe.

Strange choice. The original of Apache was by the Shadows. And it's a tune not a riff.

Trevor, do you even understand what a riff is?
There are no riffs in Come Up and See Me.
This is the third or fourth musical example you have suggested that contains no riffs whatsoever!

Beat me to it, Dennis... that was one that immediately came to mind.

It might help to define a riff...I'd start with the OED's definition as a short repeated phrase, and add that it might be anything from less than a bar to a few bars long, it is not limited to guitars, and it may reappear with variations.

The one that came to mind after Layla runs something like this: (name that tune in one note; no more than two needed)

Ba ba, ba-ba-baaa, baba baba ba / ba ba, ba-ba-baa baba baba ba / ...

    (I can't get no / Satisfaction / ...)

I feel spoilt for choice here although I'm not sure I can differentiate between a lick and a riff.

Another one or two ... or maybe three

Badge - Cream (or maybe Sunshine of your Love?)

    Purple Haze - Jimi

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple

    Oh go one.....

    Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Surprised nobody has mentioned "Seven nation army"which is probably the most popular riff of modern times, along with "Song 2" by Blur
