Always a good thing to have competition on the bench.

Not sure we let them dominate as the game went on they had nothing to lose, another team IMO who won't be near the bottom of the league come the end of the season.

Stevenage just missed out on play offs last season. Their slow start to the season is probably down to missing between 8 and 11 players through injury

The main positive is the fact we can play a hell of a lot better than this in an attacking sense. Winning ugly gets you out of this god forsaken division.

What I liked about this performance was our willingness to roll our sleeves up and get stuck in, no waving arms or shouting at each other, just sheer hard work and covering for each other. We played as a team.

Correct he said it wasn't happening.I assume that was the signing of Davitt. He also mentioned about being busy on the phone so hopefully still a chance of signings.

Did he say that? Or did he say we just didn't sign anyone in time to play last night?

He did say it wasnt happening maybe it was a signing for last nights game he spoke about. Hopefully we will still get a couple of good signings.

Spot on. First game I’ve been to this season but agree BRE looks a real coup. He’s powerful, quick, intelligent and the big thing he offers that we missed last season, a voice! First half especially he was commanding the back four and talking to them all the way through. He’s definitely brought the best out of O’Conner who I though was also very good last night. The confidence that must install in your goalkeeper is priceless and looks as though we’re seeing the benefit in a rejuvenated O’Donnell. His save in the second half was class.

Front two will cause all sorts of issues. Incredible how many free kicks Donaldson wins through clever feet and ball management. Vaughan is exactly the character we need as captain. He’s a little like Tony Mac in that he doesn’t shut up and keeps pestering the back 4. Thought he was a little lucky in the second half as I did see a little stamp on the Palmer free kick. Both forwards did seem to tire in second half backing up the need for options from the bench.

I’ll get blasted for this but I actually thought Akpan did OK (just ok!). For a 15-20 min period in the second half we looked very in control and thought he used his position well and put his foot on the ball which we didn’t do enough of in the first half. However a couple of clumsy errors shadow over this. We desperately need CM sorted. Palmer looks useful and for all his endeavour and effort, I hate to say Devine just isn’t quite there for me.

We were lucky to win this one, but as many have said last season that’s a nailed on defeat. I left the ground feeling like I had my football club back with a return of the feeling of why I love and travel to follow us. In Vaughan, we have exactly the captain we need that fans can identify with (love the touch of the shirt to the young girl at the end of the game).

Good work so far Bowyer. Definitely lots to improve on based on last night but from what I saw, you addressed all the key issues from last years forgetful season.

Until they give extra points for style, then three points is good enough

I arrived about 10-15 mins before KO and couldn’t believe how many of us were there. The noise we made at the end the game reminded me of the Parky days, felt great!

Nice comments from Bowyer in his post match interview to recognise and thank the fans for their commitment on a Tuesday night.

As soon as Akpan comes on he should just sit in front of the defence and try break up play.. yet because he’s a complete wage stealing jerk he can’t even do that. However the positives are that our defence looks more than capable against the rubbish league 2 attacks and our strikers will score goals.

Get Wood playing further up the pitch and his crosses will cause problems. I’ll take a 0-1 away from home any day of the week especially one that comes so soon after a Saturday game. We just need to control the midfield a lot better. Yes playing 4-4-2 you have to accept you’re giving some ground away at times but that doesn’t stop them doing the simple things.. Devine is too young and lacks that bit of extra quality at the minute to be marshalling the midfield... he looks tidy on the ball but think he needs someone more experienced next to him to help him grow.

Scannell is clearly still not fit (well I hope that the case as he’s currently slower than oil tanker when turning) hopefully he can get his fitness up through game time. Broken record time but we sign 2/3 midfielders before the window shuts and a young fast forward on loan and we’ll easily go up.. this league is abysmal.

At the minute we remind me of the team 2 seasons ago.. winning games whilst not playing well.. if we don’t sign the required players we’ll fall away again

Yes 3 points but we will come unstuck very shortly with inept performances like that most games. If we don’t get this midfield out the tide will turn very soon. Palmer and Devine are very willing but lack strength and power going forward. Anderson and Akpan are even worse and even against Oldham were overrun in Midfield for most of the game. Thought Wood Everton and Keeper last night were excellent but let’s be fair the teams we have played this year are no where near top 6 contenders and we haven’t excatly played them off the park. Stats last night are very telling !

The joys of midweek away games. Shippers coach broke down in the car park. Had to get another sent down from Bradford.
We left Stevenage at midnight. I got to bed at 4am.
    Thank goodness we hadn't lost.
