We have to start Doyle upfront alongside Vaughan with two wingers supplying them.

    O'Donnell

    Henley AOC BRE Wood

    Connolly Reeves Cooke Pritchard/Zeli

    Doyle Vaughan

I think we might be overstating the wingers thing.

If Zeli and Connolly are just going to whip in crosses, we aren't going to score against cumbersome lumbering centre backs.

It's more about the way we play than specifically using wingers.

We need to keep the ball on the deck and get it to Doyle; if it comes in aerially, Vaughan needs to work it to Doyle.

If you play the channels, then a lot of penetrating passes, come from midfield rather than the wings!

    Yep.

Fans might have a fit, but I wonder if we'll revert to the diamond with Devitt at the top, Cooke and Palmer in the middle, and Reeves deep - of course Bowyer himself is likely to change that if opposition are particularly dangerous from the wide areas.

    I would drop Vaughan
Play Doyle up top with Pritchard, Devitt and Cooke behind him
Reeves and Taylor behind those but with more of a license to get forward
Back 4 of Wood, BRE and AOC with Henley right back.

More or less the same team that has given us a 7 match unbeaten run with Doyle for Connolly

Pritchard and Devitt create the width around Doyle when we go forward
    4-2-3-1 when defending
    4-3-3 when attacking
Vaughan has scored 1 goal all season from a cross.
Pritchards stats back up why he should start imo and Devitt is fresh and looking to make an impression.
The attacking side of our game needs freshening up both for quality and giving players a rest who have been over used due to lack of forwards recently

I wonder what the expectations are for the Crawley
game? Will we win? Will Doyle score? Will the critics
be out in force if he doesn't? He got a hat trick there
for Swindon so they are likely to pay him extra attention.

We have to score more goals so I'm hoping GB will make
allowances to play to Doyle's advantage.I think Vaughn
can create for Doyle but get crosses in fast and low rather
than ballooning them for defenders to snap up.

    I think a 2-1 victory.It won't be an easy game,not
one of our more successful away venues.

So play with zero wingers and 4 CMs despite 90%of Doyle's goals coming from wide areas?

I agree ..... But would prefer tomorrow, for that result. ;)

As an aside - I think STFC may get a 'home roasting' this week against a fluent Crewe side. :)

NO, (IMO), Not Palmer (ffs ....... anyone but HIM in your line up) Pritchard, if fit, a much better solution.

Pritchard is still out. He may be fit for the next home match.

What about playing players in their preferred and best positions? I know it is a novel thought, but play them where they feel comfy. Very few players are successful in different positions, but at push they can, but hardly successful. We have had to, but now we have players coming back so not as vital that we need to now.

It depends on " Mr defensive " , i would start with both Doyle and Vaughan , not sure i go with the crosses into the box theory, play the ball into the box in dangerous on the floor areas . Midfield will be key to make sure we create more goal scoring openings .

Thank you. :) In which case Taylor. Reeves and Palmer are too 'joined at the hip' for that to work, as we've already seen in their 'roles'.
