Not disputing it but is that a fact that 90% of his goals came from wide areas?

We have up to this point posed very little threat inside the opposition box this season . We do have a lot of time with the ball in midfield areas , if we can retain this midfield strength and get the ball quicker into the box i believe both Doyle and Vaughan would thrive .

 

No just a rough estimate from watching his goals. It will be a high figure like that though

Tilly, just a tip, don't post on here about Vaughan while you are also online ordering, er, that stuff some gentlemen use if the need arises.

 

End of last season and start of this one, I wanted to see 5-3-2 tried. It's been effective bit terrible to watch. 3-4-3 would be my choice now. Our defence would be stretched a bit more but I think they would still cope well. Our attacking options would have most League 2 defences very worried, even those playing 3 centre backs, and I reckon it might even look good without Doyle.

Taking into account the whole season I think today will tell us more than any other game. Doyle scores today and we’re off. Good luck GB, everyone is watching.

 

Well whatever the formation, it has to be two upfront now. Doyle hasn't come back to sit on the bench and vaughan isn't making way for him. Got a feeling he'll go back to 532 now though unfortunately.

 

Doyle will start Chris with Vaughan along side him, Connolly out wide 4 at the back and 3 in midfield.
4-3-3 for me today.

 

How do you fit doyle and vaughan into a 433?

 

Easy, Connolly plays wide to run at the full backs and keep the defence stretched, and Vaughan and Doyle utilise their vast experience to move around pulling the centre backs out of position/ running into the gaps made by the other.

 

But then one of doyle or vaughan has to essentially play out wide.

 

Along side Doyle with Connolly your wide man.

 

Now who'd have thought that could work .

 

A 433 means one striker and 2 wingers/inside forwards. One of doyle or vaughan would then have to do the donkey work of a traditional wide man when we're not in possession. And even then that would rely on wood being given the freedom to attack down the left and provide the width on that side, which won't happen to the degree it would need to.

 

I would expect Wood to be the man given as you say freedom to get forward, or one of the midfield 3 pushing out wide when we attack as Law used to play in McCall's team, and as Gary Thopmson did for Parkinson.
