The eternal problem in football of putting the ball in the back of the net. Its why the successful ones go for big bucks and why we are left with whats left after others have had their picks of the talent pool. Our problems come with only having one goal outlet, if he has an off day (which has and will happen) then there is little in goal threat from elsewhere on the field. We do miss Angol but he's never been prolific, Adams needs to come up with a solution with the strikers at his disposal. Whether that be as a twin strikeforce with either Cook, Lavery, Robinson, Angol or possibly Eisa.

99% on here knew full well we needed better forwards hence the thread on it. We signed Cook who is decent. The others clearly are not.

Our signings in the summer are nothing to write home about.

Always makes me laugh when someone says who would you sign? Like they are 12! We have a director of recruitment! A CEO that likes to talk & get involved when he shouldn’t ! A Manager! That’s their job.

We lost today because our squad isn’t good enough as yet. That simple.

 

But it’s not our job to identify and sign players. That’s Lee Turnbull’s and Derek Adams’ jobs.

Recruitment has been poor though. It’s undeniable. Of the starting XI today, seven were here last season and one of the four who wasn’t, Kelleher, is a back up option. That’s two thirds of the team from last year’s worst league position in years. Only Robinson, Songo’o and Lavery on the bench weren’t here. We had a team who couldn’t score goals last season and that hasn’t been addressed, Robinson and Lavery only get a few minutes.

The club was talking up the season as one for promotion and yet the majority of the team is last years underperforming one.

Plenty of time to turn it around this season but the league table has clubs above us who have been promoted from the Conference in the last few years. Bradford City are standing still whilst ambitious former non league clubs outperform us. That’s not right.

The biggest problem is the "talking up promotion"

In my experience it is hard to hit or exceed high expectations once they are set - there is only one direction they usually go in! Much better to keep things on the level and ride the wave if things go well.

It's no good saying "calm down everyone" when the leadership of the club have said we should be getting promoted! Naive leadership for me.

 

Like I said earlier I would like to see what a full strength line up would do to most teams in this league-we are 6th with half of the best starting 11 not starting today. Let's get some perspective here.

 

Funny that when we beat Mansfield and Stevenage no one questioned recruitment and now we’ve hit a blip it’s being ripped apart. Like I’ve said previously, league 2 players are inconsistent, that’s why they are league 2 players. We have a number of injuries in very key areas that haven’t helped us in the last 4 games. I can’t see how our recruitment could have been much better to be honest. I’m struggling to look around other league 2 squads and seeing who has a better front 8 players than we do if we include the wingers. I can’t see a name that stands out to me that would realistically come here. It’s ok claiming not to be a head of recruitment and saying it’s not your job to identify players yet say that recruitment has been poor. We were all laughing at the fact Barrow claimed they outmuscled us for Zanzala. A player 99% of us wouldn’t have wanted here because apparently he wasn’t good enough. We are all happy the Eisa was coming here from Scunny and the same for Vernam after Burton fans were disappointed that he had left them.
The meltdown on this forum after a couple of poor performances which in fact were games we should have won in a league that is notoriously inconsistent is pathetic.

 

Just seen the highlights on SKY, Cook should have buried that free header, no arguments.
Same sorry tale from the Walsall match, good football until the final third then they haven't got a clue.
Needs addressing urgently, can only be a free agent now unfortunately (no "who would you sign then" comments, that's for those who get paid to find them)

 

Absolute rubbish. I want to hear my club wants to get promoted this season. I believe they will and yes people need to calm down and get some perspective. Today we had 5 players not in the starting 11 who would I suspect be in Adams starting 11.

 

I still think there's a lack of commitment from our players as well as quality...

Bang on the money after today's performance which should have got us at least a point, he went with Cook and Angol up to Lee getting injured.
We created chances once again today and Cook is guilty of another shocking miss but for me with 10 minutes to go Adams should have brought Robinson on to partner Cook the game was there for winning, Sutton for Evans was the right call fresh legs in midfield but so disappointed with a straight Lavery for Cook.
