We could ground share at Elland Road, Good parking and easy to get to, Great facilities and pitch always perfect, would be better facilities for both club and supporters and would cost less than what we pay now, We have used it for home matches before and worked well

So more than likely the rent was increase?

Suppose only one real customer , so who knows but seems to me if Bradford City have to take care of everything such as that pitch then maybe it's time to look at alternatives.

The current lease already has provisions for the club to extend the existing lease from 2028 on the same terms including the inflation linked lease payment. Whether those terms represent good value for money moving forward is quite another thing.

I presume they come to a mutually amicable agreement as both parties need each other. There is no viable alternative for City and without City the ground itself itself has no purpose.

Remember Lawn and his 'we'll take the seats up to Odsal'? Not really an alternative these days lol.

We say this but over the years when City have been in trouble has he reduced the rent?

Would he sell the stadium to the club?

Just think as a club we have to look at all alternatives.

Clubs move.. build new stadiums! It's just how it is.

I do recall it. And I also recall that his empty threats had no effect at all on the negotiatons of the VP lease! It was simply posturing on his part.

Once he realised this, the spotlight was turned towards the lease on the office block, shop and car park and I believe he and JR did a good deal on that to buy-out the lease which allowed them later to sell what was the shop and ofices for the One in a Million school.

Not sure that would be big enough. I worked there years ago and it was one of the smallest Morrison’s ever, probably built in the mid 1960’s.

Looks about 15% smaller than the current VP site just using an aerial photograph, and that is utilising the area up to Hamm Strasse.

Sorry to point out the obvious here m8 but new stadiums cost tens of millions even at the cheap end. I'd love to see another option on the table, this being a new stadium, but it will never happen. Valley parade is more than adequate for a club with no real aspiration beyond living season to season, its capacity is more than enough and the corporate facilities, despite looking shabby and run down, more than covers demand. If you want to see decent corporate facilities take a trip to Headingley for the cricket or rugby. Great experience.

Both parties know what a fair price is. Neither Gibb, Rhodes or Lawn are anybodies fool despite whats written on here, i'll reserve judgement on Rupp after his part in the Rahic fiasco.

That's right. Rules of thumb for the costs of a modern but basic football stadium are around £1800-2000 per seat excluding land costs and servicing costs. As an idea, a basic 25,000 capacity stadium to replace VP would be in the range £40-50mill plus land costs. That's a huge amount for a club with nothing in the bank! VP it is then .. unless of course the local council wants to create a jointly-funded community asset for its own reasons.

Like where a ground share, unless it was as the OP said a new stadium in Bradford it very much looks like we will stay at Valley Parade.

The terms of renting the ground were discussed but Julian believed the present terms were the one that Juilan preferred as at the time we were a Championshop club and it wasn't as bigger burden as it is to a league two club.
Made sense at the time no one foresaw then the fall from grace our club had.

Well VP needs vastly improving and that pitch is proving costly. We will need to negotiate better because the club is paying rent etc then the repairs.

Just think we can't rule anything out but weak, lazy, wasteful Bradford Council might need to get involved.

I don't know where this myth originated from, but its simply not true. 11 of our 19 home matches were capacity (18,276) crowds and all of the others, bar Watford, were close to capacity. And not every visiting team filled the away section.

All this is common knowledge. But i can guarantee you the council will not get involved, they are potless. We are a league 2 club living on the back of a large number of cheap season tickets. There is no magic money tree, no mystical sheik looking to find oil under Valley Parade. We have to accept that unless some crazy dingbat with more money than sense comes along, or a guy with a radical future outlook for Bradford as a city and a football club, then this our lot. Cheap affordable football, an alternative if you can't afford premier league prices.

For reference of a team moving to a stadium size we think we need, Brentford are moving into a new 17,500 all seater stadium with the potential to expand by about 10,000 seats. Costs in 2017 for the project were just over £70 million, however the project had delays and it's reported it's costed them around the £90 million mark all included. However, one big factor in paying theirs off was the ability to sell their current ground for £30 million. As well as selling between £20-30 million worth of players each of the last two seasons to help pay. I know it's London and everything is more expensive to build on.

Better reference for us would be the Rotherham move. 12,000 stadium, costs £20million with the potential to expand it to 20,000 should the fan base grow. Had to buy the land in 2010, took two years for completion. Needed a £5million loan from the council as well as naming rights where they get a six figure sum a year. Plot is 4.5 acres of land for their stadium, inside of a near 11 acre plot the council purchase to revitalise that river bank area.

Not a chance we afford anything like that without serious investment or loans from the council, give we don't really won any assets to raise that kind of capital on our own.

Brentford has the backing of Mathew Benham, a multi millionaire with a strategy. Rotherham has the backing of Tony Stewart, a multi millionaire with a strategy. Both have or had grounds that were in dire need of demolition or massive refurbishment. Our criteria as it stands meets none of these points.

Not saying we are in their boats at the time when they move/d, or even in the same realms as they are ownership wise.

Basically pointing out how much a stadium development cost... A) for the size roughly of what our fan base think we will need. And B) a new ground built ion Yorkshire, where the land rates, building costs would be very similar to Bradford.
