I realise we have some younger players and a
mix of youth and experience is often the best
way to go but we're,IMO, lacking in recruitment
nous and I would of liked to of seen young prospects
coming in,(may happen yet) because the future,
longer term needs to be built on better foundations.

No. City need to concentrate on the present and players ready now.

We have our own youth as prospects.

Gareth Evans and Jordy Hiwula double announcement would get some optimism back?

    Seriously? Dads army?

O Donnel, Clarke, Novak are all young 30s and Donaldson is a pensioner. Evans would be over 30 too.

Thats 5 squad members. Not even 20% of the current squad!!!

Given we've wasted on recruitment of late I wonder if ambition has been tempered by caution.

Thorne, came at the end of his career and did fairly OK, but even then I remember mutterings about him always been injured etc, (i.e. the typical glass half empty bit that others and other clubs that always think that theirs is the most badly run)

Hanson, got lots of abuse and came through the ranks. I'm referring to 'bought in' players, who fans freely have said don't get as much sympathy - quite a simply equation, for these the more the paid the less patient they are

So yes, you've named them Windass and Wells. So in 20 years these are our only 'bought in' creative successes - or players that fans won't instantly see as been rubbish. I note you don't include Wyke, but then again he's another who lots of fans had a 'meh' attitude to - despite him been one the best one we've arguably ever had at a L1/L2 level

I remember Chris O'Grady coming to us on loan and McCall getting loads of abuse for signing such a 'weak' player. Came back the following season, now on loan to Rochdale, scored as they routed us in what is still one of the best L2 performances I've ever seen, scored 15 and then spent seasons in The Championship

Of course players are subject to the management at they are put under - it's not the fans who coach them

My bemusement is that the sheer number of City fans who think virtually every player we sign are rubbish and don't seem to think they might be wrong when said player goes on to have a good career elsewhere

The majority on the various message boards are a miserable lot - who don't need any excuse to have a moan. Apologies, if I find amusement in their ironic statements

I wish that’d be a game changer imo, but won’t happen Evans likely, but can’t see Hiwula. More than happy to be proved wrong.

Well he needed to be signed before 12 noon to be registered for tomorrow. Would expect any announcement to be done well after training finishes though.

they love him and wish him well, but don’t seem too gutted about losing him from what I’ve seen. ‘His legs are going’ seems to be the theme - that probably makes him perfect for here though.

It’s about balance. There’s a chronic lack of pace throughout this side. When we run, most look like they’re wearing lead boots.

He will probably create goals and who said he was our priority signing?

Why would we even be questioning not getting behind him? Seriously, I worry about some of our supporters sometime. I couldn’t give a toss what celebration he did in the heat of a moment years ago! He will be a very solid signing for us if it happens and I have no idea why anyone wouldnt get behind him, or any other player who signs for us for that matter.

That’s top end league one level though. I Actually think the Evans one isn’t a bad signing. It is a little weird given what we have down the right already and up front but not the worst signing. If it means we see less of Ismail and DMH then I’m all for it.

however it can’t be the only one we get in. We need Evans and 3 more

Nicky Law could fall into that category, he did a excellent job for us, the second more so, and he is still winning POTY at Exeter.

Yes but your argument means going round in circles
and repeating the gambles we take on what is often
    inept recruitment.

I'm really surprised he still hasn't signed for anyone now that we are on the eve of the third game of the season. There have been rumours of Northampton, Portsmouth and Lincoln all being interested but yet he's still without a club.

I take that point. But we have lots, and lots of first hand experience how players dropping down the leagues at an age where their 'legs go', struggle. If he arrives, then fair enough. Its not the worst signing in the world, I just don't see how it adds to the massive gaps we have - which are a lack of pace up front, a ball winner in midfield and defensive strength at CB and RB.
