I heard he would have been happy with a 2 year deal but he and Hughes thought it would be funny to make it 3 just to p!ss Fordy off.

Don't remember him having a chance those last 4 games. Some wonderful interplay between Crichlow, Stubbs and Lewis though.

As to the rest I draw your attention to my post on another thread where I repeated my comments of 5 years to recover from Rahic. Your superficial dismissal of that period is made with zero knowledge of the situation whereas I have intimate knowledge and transmitted that to Stefan Rupp when I went to Munich.

What other choice is there ? He's just had the season of his life, I'm damn sure he's already had other offers and I'm.damn sure some of those will be three year terms.
So what do we do when he comes asking for three years eh ? Say sorry pal we don't think you'll ever score 20 again, and let him go, or give him three years.
This deal is inevitable, unavoidable (unless we are happy to let him go) and when compared to 18 months for Derbyshire it's common sense.
The simple fact is, if we offered him two years, he would have gone and some of those moaningvabout a three year deal would be screaming lack of ambition.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't and in life you should only regret what you never did, but could have.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Budgie, Allotment Bantam, Morley Bantam and 9 others like this. -

Great signing but as others have said it has to be backed up with more mobility/forward thinking behind him and getting the ball forward and into the box (with quality) quicker,
The brilliant individual goals away at Gillingham and Mansfield were outstanding but his bread and butter is getting on the end of corners, crosses and in the penalty area stuff.
Don’t think he’ll get near the numbers he did this season but a 15 to 20 league goal season is not out of the question.
What we can’t do is have another season where our second highest scorer has 6 and our third highest scorer didn’t play for us after January.Bronco, stubgate13, Ulysses S Grant and 8 others like this. -
Boom! Get in.
Three years is a long contract for a 33 year old, but worst case scenario we have a very solid second choice striker for the last year of his contract. Not having goals on the bench cost us points this year.
I wonder how much Hughes' presence influenced Cook's decision? It's not talked about on this forum much, but Hughes and team can take a lot of credit for developing Cook so well last season.banbrotam, Allotment Bantam, Bronco and 8 others like this. -

Just come in to this news.
Lets flip this on its head. If we had just signed the divisions leading scorer, 31 goals and 8 assists from a fellow league 2 club
I think we would all be crowing about a fantastic signing , 3 year deal or not.
He just needs some proper support up top now.

I'm glad we aren't making the same mistakes we've made in the past with guys like Rory McArdle.
If the talented first choice player asks for 3 years instead of 2, we need to consider that instead of sending that player to the hills and struggling for a replacement.
In the past we were stupid; giving Cook 3 years is a no brainer.

Cooks goalscoring record is reflected by where he's happy, settled and feels loved.
When he isn't, he lacks motivation and prone to weight increase.
And at his age, it gives us a clear advantage over others wanting his signiture, particularly clubs not based in the north.
If we were to lose him, I feel it could possible be somewhere like Hartlepool, close to his roots.
However, Im quietly confident, he'll see he professional career out with us.Mighty Bantam, Rudie, Bronco and 5 others like this. -
It's great news and very much unexpected. But its essential that we add greater pace and creativity to our midfield and wide forward positions, plus a greater goal threat from other positions.
