Both would be on starters kind of money though. Walkers probably one of if not our highest earner, Williams was on a rumoured £5K a week at Swindon, not a chance we'd offer near that, but Williams will join a club wanting to start and want starters money. Neither would settle for being a rotational player.

It’s competition and Walker is also effective in the left wing there is room for good players and Williams is one

I wish people would stop saying Cook is 33 years old.

He is 32 years old. His date of birth is 18th October 1990 !!!!

Silly question. He only poses negative issues, never the answer.

That area does need competition, but think the money it would need to bring Williams on board is better spent out wide at the minute.

I don't think it really matters.

Cook might be 34, but he's still got plenty left in the tank if you ask me.

I wouldn’t use the word ‘madness’, but tend to agree with the point.

Realistically at his age he wasn’t going to be signing for anything shorter though after the season he’s had, so not surprised.

Signing a 32 year old for 3 years who relies on pace or has a dodgy injury record is one thing..what is Cook going to lose? There's no pace to lose. Awareness will only increase. Mobility.. again, wouldn't say a 35 year old would have many issues there.
Great signing. Altho as others have said, we seriously need pace, mobility and goals elsewhere.
He's been golden boot this year with pretty shit service
Imagine him with quality ball the like of which Summerbee or Beagrie produced even as their careers wound down..

How do you know Cook hated his role last season? Scoring 30 goals and then turning down clubs in a higher division to play for us would suggest he is pretty happy with the system.

I agree the midfield needs a revamp and that we need goals from elsewhere, but letting the league's top scorer go on a free does not help us. It's madness that some even think that signing Cook is bad news.

Some posters also seem to massively simplify the scouting/signing process. Finding young players who will score 10+ goals isn't easy. Signing players at this level is always going to be somewhat of a gamble, be it young loanees from higher division clubs, or non league prospects. There is no guarantee.

We narrowly missed out on promotion last year. The margin between us and the promoted teams (except Orient) was narrow. We've now managed to retain out top scorer. If we can add some more energy and experience to the central midfield, wingers who can chip in with goals, and a backup to Cook, then we will be very competitive.

Every team promoted from L2 this season mainly played with a back 3/5 wing back system, also every team that made it to Wembley across all 3 division's play the back 3/5 system.

Hughes flirted with it a few times towards the end of games, but do we think he'll follow trend? Or give the 4231 another go next season? If we can find Cook a partner with pace, I can see us going with what seems to be working across the EFL. We have 4 or 5 CBs already on the books and just Chapman as an out and out winger at the minute.

The problem will be if Hughes continues to play him up front, on his own, getting battered by two centre backs every week. In that event, he'll be a spent force well before the end of his contract. Hopefully he's signed on the proviso Hughes provides him with some meaningful support.

Just come in to this news.
Lets flip this on its head. If we had just signed the divisions leading scorer, 31 goals and 8 assists from a fellow league 2 club
I think we would all be crowing about a fantastic signing , 3 year deal or not.
He just needs some proper support up top now.
Wonder if Oliver might want out. Cook , Derbyshire and Oliver

Not sure where the club could find another striker who could get anywhere near 20 goals in a season, for less money, 3 years is a surprise but I wouldn't have thought its a massive increase just spread out over 3 years, we know what Cook is capable of scoring now up to Hughes to sort the right support out for the guy.

Maybe. But the offer to Ridehalgh suggests otherwise - he doesn’t have the pace to play as a wingback. Although, Gillead has played that role a few times and I think it suits him perfectly. If we can get Crichlow back, I think he’s best suited to the left of 3 centre backs.

Cook scoring goals is not the problem, as you post getting him reasonable support is a different matter, delighted for the guy without his goals it would have been one piss poor season.
