Good to see Banks's goal from that angle. Watching on iFollow, with the side-on view, I wasn't sure if it was really meant as a cross, and nor were the commentators. But that angle convinces me it was a beautifully curled shot. Stunning goal.

He could and should blossom under Hughes, learning from one of the best in the trade.

My criticism last year was that he wasn't clever enough when going up against no nonsense defenders, he often got frustrated and simply lost interest and didn't bother competing for headers.

For a lad of his size, he should have bullied more and won more free kicks than he did. I compare him to a poor man's Windass, naturally big lad but Windass had the nouse, to wind defenders up and get cheap free kicks whereas cooky doesn't really do that.

It's good to see him looking sharp and has taken his chances and goals really well so far, long may it continue

My worry is we or anyone else would get totally swamped in the middle of the park……with 442

I can’t think of one team in modernist football that plays the formation for that simple reason.

Some will be playing 352 or 433. I don't see many opposition L2 teams, home or away, playing 442 these days, because they get swamped in central midfield.

I wonder if we might have to fend off some last minute bids for Andy Cook from any league one team looking for a striker before the deadline?

26 goals in 65 games for us (and not all of those are starts). The man is a machine.

Some one called him a poor mans Deano and I didn’t see it until recently, he’s playing with a new lease of life and it’s showing.

Deano was a much more skilful and cleverer player. Thick as mince but his footballing brain was excellent.

Cook doesn’t have the touch or link up quality Deano had but he has the ability to tuck it away just like he’s done at Walsall and Tranmere etc in the past.

The Barrow commentators made me laugh as they said his shirt number is higher then his IQ, but he’s been in superb form - fair play to him knuckling down when could have easily left after Oliver rolled up.

Banging goals v Hull and very much deserves the shirt this season.

He's lost weight, looks fitter than I've ever seen him and looks totally up for it. Good to see.
When he's working on confidence, Cook instinctively gets into good scoring positions and that's exactly what you need when the guy can put them in with his head and either foot. He's a battering ram, not pretty but who cares?

I'd take 20 from him in league 2 this season and 12-15 in league 1 next season to be honest

Fordy you're looking at it through the prism of top level Premier League where rightly the best clubs expect and demand that their goalscorers are all-rounders . At L1 and L2 the importance of having strikers who score goals and maybe do not do much else is still vital. Look at the stats over the last few seasons. It's the difference in the levels on the pyramid, pure and simple. And fair do's to Andy Cook, he defends back really strongly as well as scoring goals.

Tin hat time but I do agree with some of what @Fordy117@Fordy117 is saying on this. I wrote in another post that I wonder if Cook’s form has thrown a bit of a spanner in how Hughes planned to play this season so far and now he’s having to try adapt with the players he has available.

If this is the case it’s a little worrying as it means our plan B or C is limited (not entirely sure what plan A is at the moment?!) but regardless I can’t help think that Oliver was brought to be starting striker and Cooks form, together with injuries to Walker and Osadebe, he’s accommodating to a style he maybe didn’t plan to use as his preferred?

You're wasting your time. He harps on about people not understanding the modern game but fails to grasp that league 2 is not the same as the Premier league.

Whilst of course everybody would like a striker like that others can contribute in other ways.Jon Stead was a perfect example he wasn’t a prolific goalscorer but he was a clever footballer drawing players out of position for others to exploit winning free kicks rather than giving them away and holding the ball up. Clayton Donaldson was similar

So MH drops Cook in 5 games time as he hasn't scored many-who in the squad are you slotting in to that role who can "track back, pass, tackle, beat players"?
