Alex Gilliead Signs

I think it was both, especially once we'd switched to 4-2-3-1 under T&S.

Our wings weren't good enough which backs up your point, but we had NO back up in central midfield (to the point that Clayton Donaldson was an attacking midfielder lol) and up front we had nothing behind Cook after Rowe checked out after his five game blitz early on.

 

Get real Fordy. He's a decent player at this level and probably okay for league one in the right team. Some players just need the right manager and set up. Adams as shown that he is good at getting the best out of players. The lad was no more than okay when on loan with us but that was in a very poor set up. He's still young so let's see how it goes.

 

I’m sorry, did he play for a different Scunthorpe to the one that finished third bottom. Is it a different Gilliead to the one who scored once last season?
I’m not knocking the lad, I’m just struggling to see the excitement, it’s not got me rushing to buy a season ticket or put a fiver on promotion. We’ve gone from recruitment of ex City players to ones who have worked with Turnbull.

Feels like recruitment is just as lazy with Turnbull as it was before him.

We were already signing cast offs from Scunthorpe, and at no point since we started signing players from Scunny have Scunny actually been any good.

There's a saying "sign from non league, get a non league side".

I think we need to be realistic and look at how bad Scunthorpe United have been before we start celebrating filling our starting XI with their players.

I think the problem is that Scunthorpe were complete bobbins so it's hard to gauge whether Gillead was particularly good or the rest of his team were spectacularly bad.

Hopefully it's a good signing but he'll need to up his output in terms of goal contributions.

 

Adams has said that his teams create chances and like to attack so Gilliead does seem to fit the bill.

It's an interesting and fair point Jon. It will be interesting to see if the two Scunny lads can up their output of assists and goals to the required level because expectations are more like 3rd off top than 3rd off bottom.

It does feel like Adams is assembling a squad where the players have something to prove and I feel they'll be worked hard so let's see if they can get up to the level needed.

What this "lazy recruitment" obsession you've got? I should think that Adams and Turnbull put a bit more thought into it when they look at the pool of players available , neither of them are mugs.
What should their thought process be ? Turnbull agrees with Adams on the merits of a potential signing. Then Sparks says "wait a minute guys, this is going to look like a lazy signing to one or two of those members of the Fan's Forum, we better look at someone else".

You see, this approach that you have on every signing where you say "read their forum, their fans said he was the best and wanted him to stay" starts to fall apart a bit when we sign two players from one club - i.e. Gilliead and Eisa!

 

So you don't trust Adams and Turnbull 's judgement? Always the negative.
